So The Overcoat is a unfinshed animated film by Russian director and animator Yuri Norstein that began production in 1981 and has yet to be finished .
This film is through development hell beacuse the director (Yuri Norstein) is what you might call a freelance artist . And there isn’t any studio backing this up ( since he refused funding from many studios ) . He has a site on his own which has not been updated since 2015.

There hasn’t been info on this film since 2014 ..which the director saying he spends a lot of his time on the film . I guess you can call the entire film lost media now .
Beacuse in 2004 and 2005 at least 30 minutes of the film was screened at festivals and exhibitions

But the funny thing is there’s no footage of those 30 minutes or more of the film ( since this was 14 years ago and the film started production 37 years ago )

PBS might have aired some footage on there miniseries the Face Of Russia ( which is also lost media )at some point beacuse it’s on there broken site which no longer plays the video .

Someone tried to attempt to ask r/movies in 2016 if they could crowdfund the movie but nothing ever came out of it beacuse no one cared
