I think we need some more solid information on Freddie Freaker.
People seem to take all information from YouTube comments as fact. Freddie Freaker (sometimes known as Freddy Freaker due to a misspelling on the YouTube video that went viral) was on an TV advisement in the 1980's, many people claim to remember actually seeing it which I believe. In the commercial it asked you to call the number 1-900-490-FREAK. Some people claimed Freddy would tell jokes, others claimed it just stole $2 and others said they just heard heavy breathing. The only problem with this is that it's too many numbers to actually call. But it doesn't end there.
In the YouTube comments on the video that went viral uploaded bySylvacute84, a user by the name of PatrickRomSim (Patrick Simmons) claims he designed Freddy Freaker "Ok dude, you just made my day. I was the artist who designed and created this puppet for this commercial back in 1987 and until this moment I had never seen the final video for it. I was a very young buck at the time, just getting my start in the FX industry, so it was a pretty big deal to create something for a national ad. Thanks for posting it, my coworker and I laughed our asses off. By the way, the arms were designed to move and bend, so I have no idea why they left him in a Jesus pose. Peace."
Most people seem to have taken this as fact despite him having no evidence. Some people called him out for it in the comments and some of his replies didn't really prove his case. He made claims of their being a toy range in the prototype phase (if so none have ever surfaced) and there is apparently also a t-shirt that was available (their is a design for it online but it is very crude) but the fact that he knows this contradict his first comment. Later he uploaded pictures of the original Freddy Freaker puppet that he apparently just pulled out of his garage. I do not know the legitimacy of the photos but they seem to differ slightly from the doll in the original commercial.
Around the time of the commercial's original airing, both "Freddie Freaker" and "The Party Freak" were trademarked by the company LA Toys. However, in 1995 and 1996 respectively, both trademarks were cancelled until now, if you go to freddiefreaker.com, you will see that the copyright for Freddie Freaker has been restored.
The description provided to the USPTO for FREDDIE FREAKER is T-SHIRTS AND SWEATSHIRTS. This allows us to come to the conclusion that there would be t-shirts and sweatshirts, specifically for Freddie himself. This can be close to confirmed, because freddiefreaker.com has a photo of a t-shirt with Freddie on it.
freddiefreaker.com also has a link to a Facebook group. The creator of the group is Kevin Leto, who advertises himself as a CEO on his profile and likely could be the one responsible for Freddie Freaker himself
Upon further research, it can be seen that Freddie Freaker was produced not only by LA Toys, but by Starwest Entertainment. There is no confirmation on if they actually had anything to do with it (aside from their mentioning in the commercial), though if you go to their website (see sources) then you can see that they are a small company that works to make props and settings.
Their productions definitely have a feel similar to that of the 1980s, and they also have obviously created cartoonish designs that have a similar feel to that of Freddie Freaker himself. This may bring us a step closer to the truth of who Freddie Freaker really was.
Oneyplays had a big part of bringing back interest in Freddie. In one of their videos they started talking about Freddie and joking about him. Because it was popular they decided to sell t-shirts with Freddie on them. They made parodies of the original commercial when selling. In one of they parodies it says "We messaged the guy who made this IP (really)
We paid a license fee so we could put him on some T's" I think that this was noteworthy.
I just feel like with all the fake information about Freddie out there taken as fact we will never know the true origin of Freddie.
Here is some sources that might be useful to start off with.
