cartoonician.com/the-oral-history-of-spongebob-squarepants/2/ This article from 2012 references the episode Leaf Blower, but this time the supposed damaged audio equipment is not referenced, at least as far as I can see. (Can someone else check to make sure?) Crews references ADR (Audio Dialogue Replacement) but not the episode at the same time. Seems the odds are stacked against this being true. This article seems the most grounded yet, being actual interviews and coming from a seemingly legitimate magazine (Hogan's Alley) but does not say anything about the missing audio, just the checking of the animatic for the episode.

Also, anyone want to help look at the dates that the trivia pieces were submitted to the wikias they are on? There's tons of wikias with this episode, and all of them so far have this quoted verbatim with no source. I know that wikia saves edits.

In late April 2009, IP 98.217.95.233 submits the following edit to spongepedia's article on Reef Blower: The episode was origannaly going to have dialouge,although the recording equitment was broken. Not only are 3 words mispelled, the worst being "origannaly", there is no space between dialouge (mispelled) and although. I have a suspicion this is the first appearance of this 'fact', due to it's very poor grammar, and how much early it is than the other versions, though I haven't checked the revisions on other wikis. This is 3 years earlier than another reference I pointed out earlier on a Deviantart comment section. Stay tuned, I guess.

The spongebob wikia first says this in it's trivia section on 1:48, July 15 2012 by VastScatMan.  He saves the page one revision earlier at 1:46 and it is not there.

Interestingly, on Oct 30, 2011, the article is pretty much demolished, and the user banned within the day, and the article thereafter gets restored.

I have a feeling VastScatMan's edit was either ripped from Spongepedia or the article I mentioned earlier from September 2012. The article's protection mode soon appears to be raised to protected. This is following a ton of revisions in a row by Family Guy Sucks. A while following this, a spelling mistake is corrected on the line  which further confirms to me this could be ripped from the 2009 Spongepedia reference due to it's numerous spelling mistakes, and the fact it's on the word originally, the most misspelled word in the 'fact'.

The line is first slapped with a "citation needed" on 2:24, December 14 2012 by AMK152.  This user appears to be within the top 10 major contributors to this wikia. User 120d, with 20k more contributions than him, also edits the page a few times. A user sets a bot up for himself to correct minor errors users make. For some reason, though, the citation needed is seemingly removed and added again multiple times. On June 28th, 2013 Ab10's bot removes the protection from this page for no apparent reason, though I suspect it's because no other massive editing instances happened for a long time.

I'm going to go ahead and take a break for now. Damn, spongebob wikia seems to really obsess over that particular episode's page.

Cannot confirm until I actually find a copy. Okay, now I've got evidence the season 1 box set has no commentary for Reef Blower, and that the Spongebob Wikia is accurate in this regard.

Disk 1 has the "Plankton!" Commentary.

Disk 2 has the "Karate Choppers" Commentary.

Disk 3 has some (misc) content and no specific commentary.

It's not mentioned on either episode commentary. I also watched through all the "documentary"-type special features on disc 3 and it wasn't mentioned on those either - not even on "The Origin of SpongeBob SquarePants" or "Recollections from the First Season Crew", the two that I would most expect to have something like this.
