Perhaps one of the more obscure programming to be shown on Cartoon Network, Toonheads was an animation anthology series that aired old cartoons from the golden age of animation (at least what Turner owned, like the Warner Bros. cartoons, MGM cartoons, Paramount/Fleischer cartoons, and some more). What the show is most fondly remembered for is the segments that preceded and followed the cartoons which gave information about the cartoon's production, director, voice talent, etc. Each episode was centered around a certain theme and had cartoons around that theme.
The series (from my research) has two incarnations, one that is entirely lost, and the second one that is about 10% lost.
The first incarnation possibly began in 1992 due to it being mentioned on this pre launch Cartoon Network VHS tape: www.youtube.com/watch?v=c2GsbrNjjUE. However the article here on LMW states that it premiered in 1996. But here: www.toonzone.net/forums/threads/toonheads-question.3870611/ has a person (the last one) explain that it aired earlier than that. However, information on this particular incarnation is very scarce and the only episode guide I could possibly find is this: looney.toonzone.net/tv/turner/textoon2.html (use the Wayback Machine for this link)
The second incarnation began late 1998 and ended in 2003. This incarnation was divided into two seasons, and had a different narrator, and presentation. Check the LMW article here: lostmediawiki.com/ToonHeads_(partially_lost_animation_anthology_series;_1996-2003) to see the episode guide to identify the lost episodes.
One thing of note: the producer of this series posted a vimeo video that contained the opening segments of "The Wartime Cartoons", an hour long special from the second incarnation that aired in 2001, which is lost. vimeo.com/135880526
