again, i found some more info. i found a youtube video titled "The Metamorphosis of Mr Samsa" and it's one of those silent films. it follows the description of the movie "he transforms into a large, monstrous beetle" so i'm willing to bet this is an official clip from it.
I think that is just a short based off the same source material, in the ads on the op you can tell that this was a live action movie. Also the movie was on shown in Sweden not Canada.
On the up side you found a really really well animated short
i found what might be his facebook: www.facebook.com/ivo.dvorak.940 however this doesnt show his age or that he was a director, plus the pic is of a young guy. I would message him to find out if i had a facebook, but i honestly have doubts it is him considering the only similarities are that he is czech and like photography (a common trait among directors)
However this linkedin page might be his:
Even though it has little info on it it does state that he is czech and a director however i need an account to see more.
not really any information, but i looked up "metamorphosis movie 1976" and saw that they made a remake of it, here's the trailer (warning, if you dont like bugs then dont watch it)
EDIT: it seems like a really popular novel, because they've made multiple remakes out of it. there's the original 1976 (which we havent found yet) there's a 1993 version: www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOrhpRtEXH8 and then there's the 2012 version: www.youtube.com/watch?v=_H57OfsihAw (same as the first link)
According to the British Film Institute, Ivo Dvorak directed a the first in a series of short films coming out in 1975, the same year as Metamorphosis, which is a bit odd. He never finished the series seemingly, and I couldn't find any footage of it either. The Swedish Film Institute owned the rights to Metamorphosis at least until 1996 or later, given that it's listed as a film they preserved. If they did preserve it, it's even weirder that they lost the rights to it, though.

Also, here's the Facebook of the guy who was the lead. He seems to have had a long career and is a budding director now, his nephew actually directed Searching for Sugar Man. www.facebook.com/peter.schildt.7

Just messaged him. Even if we don't find copies, we could find more details about the production.
