What seems absent is the two coffee cups pictured in the original photo.
For what it's worth, I don't think those are coffee cups... The white spots seem to be glare reflected on the desktop from overhead lights. Notice how the one on the left even highlights the seam that's been discussed.
Hi all I was in a hurry when I posted that last night.
Haven't really had time to examine. Given the lack of provencance the video received (end of a YT compilation clip) I'm guessing it's a re enactment. I'll be joining the op's forum, which is brand new and has no content yet, to find out what I can.
I wonder if this may be a deleted scene from the recent movie. Looking forward to getting to the bottom of it, whatever it is.
The deleted scene theory is somewhat plausible oddly enough, listening to how Christine talks in the clip sounds eerily similar to Rebecca's Hall's delivery in the recent Christine film in the infamous scene. I know Rebecca nailed Christine's actual voice pretty damn well compared to the official clips in Kate Plays Christine but still, it sounds too similar to me not to notice, especially at the attempted suicide line.
While it could be a good fake, one thing I noticed is that the zoom dycaite mentioned looks to be from an external camera because if you look closely at the edges when it zooms, it looks to be projected on a screen so it adds to the possibility of it being real but distorted in post.

While it is very convincing, one thing I noticed is that the zoom dycaite mentioned looks to be from an external camera because if you look closely at the edges when it zooms, it looks to be projected on a screen so it adds to the possibility of it being real but distorted in post.
The desk in Christine looks completely different; different font, different logo and definitely not the same desk. Kate Plays Christine just had a regular desk, not a news one.

I was thinking along the lines of a deleted scene from early in production before they changed things up which is not TOO out there admittedly.

I dunno why they'd recreate the desk with such precision and then change it all. Seems like a waste of time and money to me.

Yeah got a point there, though I still stand on the zoom part since the sides show what looks like a screen where the footage is being played on.
I suspect that would've been a result of whatever device was used to transfer it. I've seen telecine rips of old films go off center like that and display a blank backing.
Also, here's the desk from Christine, for comparison:
Yeah, familiar with the look since I have seen a bit of the film already. I guess I was just thinking in that semi-creepypasta way where the director shot a scene that looks very close to the real deal if possible, but changed it so it looks more like an actual movie scene instead of a re-enactment.

I saw this on reddit and I feel like this is fake, the whole video about her death feel digital to me. Here is an video showing off plugins to make a video look like an old VHS tape www.youtube.com/watch?v=_p2u1gnTA2Y So its not hard to pull this off, the set could easily be remade by a few proffesonals with good attention to detail like myself. Also its very hard to ignore that fact that there where two movies about her suiside hat came out recently and then this shows up. But I guess the only way to be sure is to find a witness too the suicide to view the video too see if that was what they remember

I think the Freaky 5's intro looks digitally faked (in terms of VHS distortion), but honestly, as a VHS enthusiast, I can attest to degraded, magnetic tape looking exactly as it does in the Chubbuck part; looks too varied and specific to just be an AE plugin or whatnot. If it's fake, then I reckon they did it by recording it onto an old VHS tape and then back again.
I also don't think recreating the desk in such perfect detail would've been cheap or easy.

Actually they could of remade the desk in aftereffects, who ever made the video could of tooken a still of the desk from another video or picture and cut it into their video, it would not be hard to do at all.

I doubt the desk is digital. I think you are slightly underestimating the level of difficulty required to get it not looking fake. Have done a course in video editing myself; getting things out of the uncanny valley is hard work. Feel free to prove me wrong, though.

it is hard but it can be done, a lot of hobbist can do it and fool a lot of people, here is an example of how too use aftereffects to make convening looking videos that use masking. I think it would be easy to as a person into a still image of the set BUT I can't find a still image of the set so who is too say www.youtube.com/watch?v=vECmNK0xHNk

I know it can be done, but I was responding to your claim that it was "not hard to do at all".
In any case, I don't think we're gunna learn much more about this for at least a couple days.
