That's hardly helpful. "Research" doesn't really explain the existence of this audio clip, and her claiming Pat Dyer when Dyer himself never posted any WXLT material to his YT channel is concerning to say the least.
Yeah I really don't know what to say. I don't want to bother her. I feel like if she is aware of the search, I can understand why she is so hesitant to talk about it. I wonder if she knows Ataliste at all. I know they commented on her video of the call sign and she liked the comment, but I don't know if there is anything deeper going on. This is becoming quite the interesting mystery.
Glad you're catching onto it because let me tell you that the sign on clip and the Christine clip sound like they come from very similar sources, if not the same source, as the two clips have very similar audio quality.
Well, she responded. Her answer? "Research." Can't argue with that.

To be fair if they got the audio a long time ago and/or by "brute forcing it" (endlessly scouring search engines until they found it) I could understand not remembering the exact source.
I have a modest collection of rare films that are out of print and/or never officially released. I also have two different audio files for the 1968 RFK vs Eugene McCarthy debate. How did I get them? By brute forcing it thru google. If someone asked me tomorrow "where exactly did you find this? What was the source?" I honestly couldnt give them a specific answer beyond "research/internet/some website."

Fair enough. I just think it's odd at first glance that she credits someone but that person doesn't even have the clip in question in their own records.

That and also she was so blunt with her answer. It was just odd. I have a friend that does audio stuff so maybe I'll ask her if she thinks it's the same tape.
Interestingly enough, there's a video of WXLT's sign on from 1974. It was uploaded in December 2020. One of the comments is from Ataliste that says "thank you for uploading".
Benign stuff gets taken down frequently too. Every time I scroll through my favorites or watch later playlists on youtube Im always shocked at how many videos have been taken down. Youtube is a volatile platform.

That or if the user starts getting a lot of unwanted attention from the association it would make sense to take it down. But she hasn't yet. I sent the audio to my friend for her opinion. She's not a professional but she knows more about this stuff than I ever could.
I just came up with this transcript. Any recommended improvements?
A dash indicates a stutter. A dotted line indicates a pause.
The audio starts in the middle of her sentence. The very beginning has this distortion to it that makes it so I can't get any word of that besides "Statistics"...
I mean... we already knew what she was saying from the police report and the fact that basically every version of the audio clip on YT has subtitles. But uh... thanks I guess?

I agree. Also, to be fair, I can say that she probably was not of sound mind when this occurred, and I am hesitant to use the "this is what she wanted" argument as a result.
Indeed. In my opinion it's a disingenuous argument people use to try to reconcile their morality with their morbid curiosity. ("I'm not voyeuristically digging up a family's tragedy, I'm honoring a dead woman's last wish!") Just admit you want to see something none of us has ever seen before, gruesome though it may be, because the taboo is exciting. I will openly admit that I'm the same way--I just draw the line at actively seeking it out myself, especially while the family is still alive. I have far more respect for that position than trying to pretend that leaking someone else's dirty laundry is a noble exercise in virtue. I guarantee that no keyboard warrior who trots out that argument would dare to say they know Christine's wishes to her family or surviving coworkers' faces. (And if they did, that's quite the audacity.)
At the end of the day, Christine is not hear to speak on her own behalf anymore. Nobody can say what she "would have wanted." Nobody can speak on her behalf. Nobody can put words in her mouth. None of us has any right to presume to know this woman at all, much less better than her own family. That said, her family *is* still here, they're the ones still affected by this tragedy and *their* position is clear. You can choose not to respect those wishes if you want, but don't pat yourself on the back for your righteousness along the way, please.
To those *still* clamoring for the damn tape, who'd insult one of the lone voices of sanity on this thread, just admit that you want to see a woman die for real before your eyes and get off your high horse.
Oh god no, I dont want to see this at all, ive seen enough death in my life. Im just saying why i would disagree with that reason

Honestly, we should seek this out.
It's hypocritical to not search for this out of some moral high ground even though we have articles on way worse things like the found suicide footage of a little girl.

I get the feeling it’s less of a “moral high ground” and more of a “I don’t want to receive a cease and desist from the family of a deceased woman”.

Also, if you’re talking about Roro-Chan... read the comments on that article. I’ll spare the details, but there used to be a gif of her death, uncensored, on the page. This isn’t a matter of “Well, if THEY were able to get away with it, why can’t I?” It’s a matter of “Why were they able to get away with it in the first place?”

Quite frankly, we shouldn't have even sought out the Roro-chan footage. Honestly, I used to be in the camp of "She wanted us to see it so we should be allowed to see it" but as time passed I began to ask why we were wanting to seek it out. I began to dig deeper. What makes this so important that we have to go against the wishes of her surviving co-workers and family and tear open their old wounds? And for what? To satisfy some morbid curiosity?
But as I stated earlier, it's too late to have this discussion. The audio is out there. Nothing we can really do about it now.
