Like, if someone's going to post a video saying "I got it," they need to provide tangible proof. It's just too easy now to take someone at their word.

So let me get this straight. It's fake unless you can see Christine committing the act in all its 1974 Quad/U-Matic/CV-2000 glory? Audio-only recorders existed in 1974 too so you can't just rule them out just because you can't see anything happening. We can't just disregard this as fake just because we can't see what's happening. We should be closely scrutinizing the quality of the audio recording to see whether it is authentic rather than just dismissing it because it isn't video.

For awhile I thought (and still do) that this and Sesame Street 847 were the two biggest pieces of lost media: they both exist but are being withheld from us for valid reasons... it will be interesting if half of 847 and just the audio of this is the way things end up unfolding. Probably the two most key parts of both these pieces are the things we didn't end up getting (the maniacal witch half of 847 and the visual of this one).

You just gotta judge it case-by-case. Like this case for instance (Chubbuck), I think we're totally fine. We have our little thread, no one seems to be overstepping lines; it's not like the finding of this audio (which in reality should be a massive deal for this community [though I get why it isn't and shouldn't]) will be plastered all over the notice page...

In the E! interview I did not see anything in reference about how she fell, but I have heard all over the place that she fell violently forward and then fell out of her chair which would call for the loud sound. I will also agree that from what I can tell, from the police report and from my own personal research, the movie is rather accurate in its depictions (at least of her suicide). Also, from what I have heard and read, the actual tape itself would continue on for a few more seconds (in which one would possibly hear something to the extent of "Christine, that wasn't funny" or "Very funny, Christine") before fading to black; it probably didn't end as suddenly as the audio did.

Trust me. People are trying to put this search to rest, but some people will never stop looking for it. No matter what we might say about how this should never be found, people will keep looking and they may have actually found it already. Right now we are just trying to determine beyond a reasonable doubt whether it's real or fake. Unfortunately for us and her family, someone leaked it out there, and there's nothing we can do to stop it.

Realistically, this is the closest we are gonna get to the actual thing. The only known video is rotting away in a law firm's safe and all other copies are destroyed or decaying in a Sarasota police station's evidence locker or someone's garage or basement. A very accurate and plausible sounding audio recording has been found, and I honestly believe there is no earthly way to find the actual video. I do think this is the real deal, and I think the possibility of getting the video is at London After Midnight possibilities of finding it. To me, this case is closed.

Also, in reference to what I said earlier, I did not mean to say that the movie 100 percent lines up to what happens on the tape. The tape, from what I can tell, goes on slightly longer than the way it was depicted in the movie, but the way Christine probably did her actions (such as pulling the gun in a certain way after a certain line) was probably as accurate as humanly possible.

Like I said, at this point, I am satisfied. I wish I could talk to anon1974 more to really understand what is happening, but I think that ship has possibly sailed. We got the tape...the audio at least, and I think that is all we can ask for or want. Personally I don't want to see someone actually die on tape (ironic that I wanted to hear the audio, I know), but to each their own. Personally, I am now off to hopefully find Blood Circus. If one can find the Chubbuck audio, I feel like there is a chance to find an alien wrestling film lol. Anyway, that was my four dollars and two cents that no one asked for.

Actually WXLT does still exist, just under the call sign WWSB (which they changed to in 1986). It's still in Sarasota, Florida, and it's now owned by Gray Television. With regards to the injunction itself, if it exists, would likely still be valid since the station itself still exists in some form.

Whoops! My bad. I would like to see proof of this injunction, paperwork, something, beyond the word of a family member. I think we need some verification to settle the authenticity of this audio. I think it’s real, frankly, but it would help settle the issue.

Look man, the girl WANTED it to be seen, I'd say it's valid here. Also, that mindset does nothing but cause more media to be lost. Just because something is too disturbing to be seen doesn't mean we should lose a piece of history.

I agree. Also, to be fair, I can say that she probably was not of sound mind when this occurred, and I am hesitant to use the "this is what she wanted" argument as a result.
