The police report has a transcript of the show from that day. The audio from this recent video doesn't match that transcript. Whoever wrote this police report would've written the transcript verbatim...considering they were getting it from the source material, right?
I just received a follow-up message from Gordon and he has given me permission to reproduce it:
"Lin (the production manager , says copies were made, but there was noi second camera, every one of those copies, which he said were later destroyed did not show the angle that the fake one being circulated shows.."
That's 2 WXLT employees that have said it's fake. I think this is enough evidence for us to call this case closed to be honest.
If Mollie Nelson truly never wanted to release the tape, she wouldn't have admitted to having it.. when you consider that she's well aware of its value.
I'm of the mind that there would be nothing wrong morally for Mollie to release this tape as it is VERY clear that Christine Chubbuck had every intention of the public seeing her suicide.. she wanted to make sure the cameras were recording that day.
Thanks for all the discussion since I first linked this video.
I've been following it here and elsewhere.
Let's face it. There's nothing to authenticate this video. NationSquid and another YTer bickered back and forth about its ownership, BestGore picked it up and claimed it as their own.
The clip has no provenance, was very well done and gave us something to talk about for awhile.
Now we wait for the who when why angle.
Are there any screenshots or something about NationSquid and some other YouTuber arguing about it?

And, from what I remember, someone asked the production manager about those copies that were made and I think, if I remember right, those copies were destroyed in the 80s.
Edit: Opps, you said that in that post Dycaite. I need to learn to read! I remember someone else had gotten a hold of that guy and he had mentioned that all the tapes had been destroyed in the 80s. Why on earth would they make so many copies of it?
I colorized some photographs of Christine in an attempt to humanize her
This is far and away the best post in the thread. In all the scrambling to see a piece of interesting lost media, or recreate it for page views, it's easy to overlook that this was a real life person. Someone with family, friends, dreams and frustration just like all of us.
I still think the tape ought to stay locked up. If anything it should be given to the Paley center or library of Congress.

This is going to sound weird but I knew a woman that looks almost EXACTLY like Christine in those photos, she has the same eyebrows and everything. It's quite terrifying.

Thank you. I spent quite a bit of time colorizing them.
I agree with you in that the tape needs to stay locked up.
Here's the thing.
Christine's wishes need to be respected in that she wanted to be seen, she wanted it to be taped, she expected it to get out there. It seems like a disservice to her to not release her journalism, (I'm looking at you, Steve Newman) especially considering how dedicated she was to the job.
From what I've read it really seemed like she loved doing what she did, not the blood + guts reporting, but meeting with community members. It's sad to see such an interesting person be reduced to a news story on death, exactly the thing she hated and was trying to protest against by making it so public. It seems almost cruel to not let her life be seen, (again, looking at you STEVE NEWMAN) especially considering how much she wanted others to see her final act.
The actual interviews or clips from her show need to be seen. (STEVE NEWMAN!) Something to show that she was an actual person and not just another entry on a shitty "top 10 videos you can't find on the internet" YouTube video. The actual interviews or clips from her show need to be seen. Something to show that she was an actual person, a human being.
I know I'm a tad late to this Chubbuck thread but some points I haven't seen being passed around on other thread ive seen like this are first if this vid came from nationsquid first the intro to the video (talking of the static affect) seems suspiciously similar to the static in the Christine vid itself
But assuming maybe this is real it has been confirmed that a law office has the "only" tape which brings up more ways of it being "leaked" possibly a disgruntled former employee or it was copied over somehow but in my opinion I'm leaning towards fake with the lack of evidence to it being real with the "h" in newswatch being obviously not accurate not to mention the face and voice in the video are conveniently unable to give us any help identifying Christine so I'm new to this site and I did a lot of research the past week on it and just wanted to put some of my thoughts on here because it seems yall did a lot of work on this vid
Thank you for colorizing those high school yearbook (and other) photos, Joseph! Your post inspired me to whip out my Ancestry subscription and try to track down her college yearbooks as well. And, well...I didn't walk away empty handed. I found more yearbooks—middle school year books. Which I was definitely not expecting, since middle school yearbooks aren't typically archived like high school and college ones are. (College ones weren't there, unfortunately.)
I wanted josephtodd to be notified of what I said. Sorry you had to spend an extra second scrolling the page.
In virtualboy's defense, like four people quoted the entire long post. It was a real pain to browse this thread because of it. No need for the snarky tone.

I think the "snarky tone" is something we were both guilty of in that conversation.
