Yeah, I'd consider that online game lost media at this point. Don't think I've ever seen it dumped, and it was exclusively online. I do remember having to downloading a launcher of some other software to run the game, though.
I remember playing it very slightly, however, I remember the slightest about it. I remember that the toys for it were mainly available at drug stores like Walgreens, etc. (at least here.)

The gameplay consisted of sitting one of the toys on a giant model of a UB funkey, and it scanning into the game as your character. Similar to the later-on game Skylanders, many of these characters needed to be bought to progress in the game or get in-game cosmetics. The game was viewed from a top-down isometric view, similar to Club Penguin. Actually, I believe UB funkeys was one of the original "toys-to-life" concepts, but is rarely talked about. One of the main things I remember about the game is that the atmosphere was mysterious to me - I think it had some over encompassing story about some benevolent force taking over the Funkeys world and you having to take it back.
And yes, it is correct that they were available at practically any store that sold toys. Walmart, Target, Walgreens, probably even CVS. They even, near the end of the game's life, had branded characters. For instance, I own a "speedracer" funkey.
There's a lot claims about being able to replay the game but I honestly don't know if any of the "directions" are accurate. There are multiple posts on downloading but they seem to contradict each other? Maybe someone else will understand it better than me.
Here's the game from a 2007 youtube video
Here's the game being played in 2015.
This Youtuber has a lot of let's plays on U.B. funkeys. So either the website is still (or was and no longer) downloadable or the game was "rewritten" like Club Penguin.

I can vaguely recall that there were "dimensions" of sorts and you had to have certain characters to access different dimensions. The game ran from a client on your desktop as most online games did at within that time.
This is precisely right. The game had "dimensions" (I think that's what they were called) and new ones could only be accessed through purchase of more characters. The game launched from a client, kind of like what Toontown did.
I'm kind of confused though how people were still playing this game in 2015 when it's stated the game went defunct in 2010. Are their servers still up? That being said, the download for the latest version of the game is dead. I would try and connect to game and see if the servers are up still, but I had to reformat that old PC long ago.
EDIT: People have been playing this game in 2018 so I speculate that the servers are still up and running for some reason.
I asked one of the channels that posts let's plays of this game how they're able to play it. They said that the servers are down and you can only play it offline if you have the CD or a download. I never thought you could play a game made specifically for online play offline.

Thanks for doing that. Now I'm wondering how one obtains a CD or download.
I probably still have a disc for the game somewhere, as I believe I am still in possession of a UB funkey connector. I will see if I can find it at some point.
I know this thread hasn't been active for a month but just so you guys know there is an available download for the final version of game ubfunkeys-wiki.ga/downloads/versions/

oh... Well, if I ever find that disc, it's an older version of the game, so that's something.
Hi! I know this thread is a little bit on the older side, but I'm a massive fan of U.B. Funkeys and it's officially now playable on Windows 10 systems thanks for Funkeys community modders! If anyone is interested in some U.B. Funkeys video content I actually have a series started up on it that aims to be the most comprehensive YouTube series on it EVER! So I hope to see you all there
