Hello, friends! I copy-pasted this from ‘Lesser known’ media since I figured I messed up putting it there. This is about two games; one I know the name of that is now missing, and one that I barely recall.
This story goes back perhaps 4 or 5 years ago. I had just discovered a brand-new hyperfixiation: i.e. Pokemon, and I was ADDICTED to playing that stuff. I would play battle facilities for hours thinking I was a total competitive genius (now that I ACTUALLY play competitive, I realize that is not, in fact, the case). It got so bad, that I would play long into the night. And of course, mom didn’t let that slide, and confiscated my consoles. Well, past me took offense to that. She wanted to prove her mom wrong about “not knowing how else to spend time without her consoles”, only to go to her iPad and clunky HP laptop and look up ‘Online Pokemon game”. Do know; this was, in large part, my introduction to ROM hacks and emulation.
I recall the name for one of these; Pokemon Aquamarine, I believe. You play as the FireRed/LeafGreen protagonist, except you get turned into a mew, for some reason, and have to use your magic to trick people into seeing a human while looking for a solution and traveling the region with your starter eevee. I never beat it. But I recall the starter being a choice between three eevees who based on dialogue I recall would evolve into Flareon, Jolteon, or Vaporeon respectively. There was a fanmon that just looked like a hummingbird. I think the towns and gyms were different (I don’t know if the first MIGHT’VE been flying), and there was a forest AFTER the first gym. I never got past that point. Did get a shiny pinsir tho.
Now, the OTHER is a whole other story. My second-favorite Pokemon is Ninetales. So when I see one on the cover for this fangame I flip and immediately boot it up. And I got traumatized!
The game starts with a voice talking to you. Don’t recall the specifics, I do recall something, something, demonic and afterlife related? Or ‘end of all things’ adjacent? And that you had some sort of fate related to such, perhaps even being the end of all things yourself. The backdrop was red and ominous at some point. I can’t remember if the game asked for your gender, the text at the beginning changed DRASTICALLY, and oh yeah. Instead of showing your player character when they asked for your name, you were shown a whole damn fetus. It was after either that, the game swearing, or actually booting in, that I said NOPE because I was a goody two shoes. Not sure what changed THAT, probably my quarantine character development, or using reddit for the first time. There’s no going back after the redditor arc. I recall a red and purple motif two. Like, gengar-haunter purple and crimson stuff.
I post this here because I haven’t seen either game since in spite of how often I check for ROMs, like a few months ago, when I was loading up an R4 for my 3DS. I’m convinced whatever that second game was was a fever dream, perhaps placed within reach of my neurons by my own mother so as to ensure I never played Pokemon again, or set by Nintendo Ninjas to make sure I never played a rom again (I started what was, in essence, a Super Smash Bros. Brawl fight club in school using my joycons, X-Box controllers, Dolphin Emulator, and my laptop, so that ship not only sailed but it traveled around the world two times over).
If anyone can help me make sure that whatever I witnessed on that faithful (January?) weekend WASN’T the consequences of me hallucinating whilst going through a Pokemon withdrawal, I’d appreciate it. Have fun on all thy Lost Media endeavors. Peace and love guys!
