Mirai shounen conan is an anime which premiered in spring of 1978 in Japan. It was created by the famous Hayou Miyazaki, who is known or his brilliant works such as Nausicaa of the valley o the wind, My neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke, etc. This anime is not very well known, however, it has had a great following and was the first steps to some of his later works mentioned previously.
The anime is set in 2008 A.D., after a ravishing world war which threatened the existence of humanity. Very few survivors lived, but those who survived became accustomed to life on islands, since the earths tectonic plates had moved causing land to sink and water levels to rise. After a mysterious girl named Lana appears washed up on shore, Conan, in the heat of the moment yells to his grandfather and further so explains that there are more survivors on earth than just Conan and his grandfather. Island Remnant had been habited by just two survivors with no means to escape; however the circumstances this mysterious girl brings to the table incites Conan's curiosity and a breathtaking & beautiful adventure takes place within 20 or so episodes.
This anime is the perfect example of storytelling, and I highly recommend that any of you anime fans out there watch it; do not disregard it because of its age. It is simply pure and beautiful, and offers an experience no other anime can match today.
However, there is one problem I would like to address: the English dub is lost. While I thoroughly enjoyed the series watching in subbed, it would be a blessing to the anime community if a dubbed version was available to the general public; as subs are online. There is proof that a subbed version had been produced in the past, as it had been broadcasted on Animax; a Japanese satellite television network. Animax had apparently dubbed the anime in English and broadcasted it throughout Southeast Asia and South Asia. There is no footage of this dub, besides the footage below from a collection of Mirai Shounen Conan library game which was on the video game system known as 3D0.
This anime is simply beautiful and fans would love to see a released English dub overseas. The fact that it is lost is confusing, as there has been controversy over this anime's publishing in the past, however it's strange that no recorded footage has been found; it's a shame.
