Back sometime in the early 2000s, I remember watching a splatter action-horror hybrid with my brother. The film was essentially a rip off of other horror and action films combined into a single movie.
The plot goes like this: a young couple are off to study some magic book in a cabin by the woods. A group of male rednecks get wind of this and strike when the husband is off in the woods and assaults the wife, killing her in the process. The husband comes back and is pissed, picks up the book and starts rapidly speaking some Latin (?) phrase that ends up giving him magic fight powers. A bunch of crazy shit happens during this, random clips appear in his eyes and on the cabin windows. The scene ends with a tree limb flying through a window. The man then runs after the rednecks and kills them one by one. The leader is killed outside the cabin (now on fire) by the husband who crushes his skull with his bare hands.
I believe the film was called something to the effect of “Inferno” or “Fury” and we watched it around 2006 – 2008 (to give a time zone, but it could have been released earlier). My brother was into all sorts of obscure and indie horror and we watched a shit ton of stuff back when we were kids. I started this investigation a year ago and yet garnered no results so I stopped searching.
I started searching again recently because my brother died a week ago, and I figured finally finding this damn movie that plagued me for so long will serve as a great tribute to him.
It’s not Evil Dead, Storm Warning, Adam Chaplin, The Crow, or The Cottage. I could just be misremembering stuff but I can visualize some scenes and have memories of watching them.
Given the nature of most extreme indie films being obscure and rare, it's possible I never get to see this.
