There's something I'm a bit confused about. Is there any difference between the terms "Reconstruction" and "recreation"? Or are they synonymous? If there is a difference, what is it?
I feel like "reconstruction" implies that more original material exists. For instance, a movie scene that's been "reconstructed" may use surviving audio, video clips, or photos to give as accurate a representation of the original intent as possible. This is mostly what is done in the professional space.
However, "recreation" implies that even less exists, so it's mostly educated guessing or wishful thinking. In that movie scene example, it'd be a scene that was said to be cut (perhaps described in an interview) but no visual / audial evidence survives. Later, a fan attempts to create their own take on the scene with what we know, and a few guesses. The actual scene may be completely different, but a recreation is more of a "theory" anyway, so it's fine.

As someone who made a reconstruction for a lost deleted scene, I can agree with this ✋
(The Land Before Time: Extended Sharptooth Attack for anyone wondering.)

A recreation would be like trying to recreate lost scenes like Sam Kinison’s Deleted Role in Three Amigos and a lot of John Candy’s lengthy improv sequences that were completely removed from Home Alone.
