Hello everyone.
If you've been catching up with the news, you've most likely seen that many important figures of Hollywood have been accused of sexual assault and related crimes. As a result, several projects have been affected by either being cancelled, reshot, rewritten, etc.
So, to maybe keep a record of these projects and whatnot, I've made a not-so-short list gathering several projects that have been affected by these ongoing scandals, in a way to maybe help the people of this community know about them, and chose whether or not to add them to the main site, to keep an archive, as usual.
So without further ado, here's the list, ordered by the people involved. The most relevant projects will have a "!" next to them:
Harvey Weinstein [Producer]:
The Current War (2017)!: The film, centered on Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse’s race to control America’s electricity with their respective systems, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), was originally meant to have a limited release on November 24th, 2017. However, following the scandal, the film’s release has been moved to 2018 as it seeks a new production company.
What also needs to be noted about this 107 minute film is that since its TIFF release, as a response to the negative reception, which included bad pacing, 12 minutes were removed from the film for subsequent releases, now making it 95 minutes long. Whether this missing material was going to be included as an extra on the film’s DVD/BD release is unknown.
Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock (2018?): The film, meant to be directed by Channing Tatum, based on a 2013 novel of the same name, was cancelled following the scandal. Not much is known about this project.
Untitled Project (2018): A project, who’s only known information is that it would be directed by David O’Russell and that it would star Robert de Niro and Julianne Moore, was scrapped by Amazon following the allegations, and subsequent scandal. O’Russell later found himself as the protagonist of his own scandal, following several accusations against him.
The Romanoffs (2018): The series by Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner, which focused on people who claim to be descendants of the Romanov Family, was meant to be produced by The Weinstein Company. However, since the allegations surfaced, the show’s creator decided that the show would now be produced by another company.
Waco (2018): The miniseries, revolving around the Waco siege, appears to have had its production stopped following the allegations.
Project Runway (2004): Weinstein’s name as a producer for the show has been removed following the allegations.
Guantanamo (2018)!: The series, which was meant to have a 10 episode first season (Including a 2-hour first episode), and focused on inmates in Guantanamo Bay, was originally directed by director Oliver Stone. However, following the scandal, he said he would no longer direct the series. The series’ future is now uncertain.
Unnamed Elvis Presley Biopic Project (2018): An unnamed Elvis Presley biopic series which was still in very early production stages was scrapped by Apple following the scandal.
Louis C.K. [Actor; Producer]:
I Love You, Daddy (2017)!: The film’s premiere was cancelled early amidst rumors of an upcoming New York Times piece against him relating sexual allegations, similar to Harvey Weinstein’s. The Orchard, the studio responsible for the movie, has now decided to pull its release. It is unknown whether it will now have a release or not.
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert (Nov 7th, 2017 Episode): His scheduled appearance in the show was abruptly cancelled following the NY Times rumors. Colbert then adressed the allegations made against him with a monologue.
Night of Too Many Stars: America Unites for Autism Programs (2017): After the story by the New York Times was released, HBO responded by removing him from the special.
Unnamed Netflix Special (2018): Following the allegations, Netflix decided that they would not produce a second planned special with him. They later cut ties with him.
The Secret Life of Pets 2 (2019): Following the allegations, Universal Studios, and Illumination Animation cut ties with the comedian, resulting in him not reprising his role for one of the characters he played in the first film.
The Cops (2018): An upcoming animated special created and featuring Louis CK and Albert Brooks produced by TBS has had its production suspended by the company following allegations.
Better Things (2016): The show’s future is uncertain following CK’s confirmation of the rumors and co-creator and longtime friend of CK’s Pamela Adlon being personally affected by this situation.
Kevin Spacey [Actor]:
All the Money in the World (2017)!!!: The film, which was in post-production around the time the allegations against Spacey surfaced, featured Spacey as one of the main characters. As a response to this, however, director Ridley Scott decided to reshoot all scenes featuring Spacey, replacing him with actor Christopher Plummer, five weeks prior to its release. (This one's extremely relevant considering the film was shot in its entirety, and that Spacey's scenes will probably not be released)
House of Cards (Original Treatment) (2013-2018)!: Following the Spacey scandal, Netflix has decided to make the 6th season of the show the last one. They then followed by firing Kevin Spacey. However, there are unconfirmed rumors that this decision was made before the allegations, and that they only have just now gone public. (Could also be significant, considering that if the rumors aren't true, then there will be a lot of rewritting going on, meaning the original story will be lost)
Gore (2018)!!!: The film, centered on writer Gore Vidal, was originally meant to release on Netflix, and was in post-production around the time the allegations came out. As a response to the scandal, the film’s release been cancelled by Netflix.
Ed Westwick [Actor]:
Ordeal by Innocence (2017): The miniseries, based on the novel of the same name by Agatha Christie, was meant to have a November 26th release. However, as a result of the allegations made against the actor, the show’s release has been halted.
White Gold (2017): The series, which has Westwick as one of the main characters, has had its filming halted as a result of the allegations made against him. The future of the show is uncertain.
Hopefully, this information will be useful in the future for the wiki. And by the way, not all of these projects will become lost. This is just a list of projects affected by these scandals. Keep that in mind, and if you know of anything else, feel free to reply and add to the list. What happened sucks, but we can't just let all of this fade into obscurity, right?
