The first I ever knew about Adult Swim was around the time of its premiere back in 2001. I would have been 6 years old at the time, so I must have stumbled upon it by accident watching Cartoon Network in my room.
And yet a faint visual from then sits in my mind: an animated bumper from a bird's eye view, possibly in Black and White, showing a public pool when they announce that kids have to leave for Adult Swim. Not to be confused with the live action bumpers of seniors entering the pool which are more well known.
I can't pinpoint the exact style of drawing or animation, however.
