Apparently Dragon Ball Evolution was supposed to spawn a franchise, introducing characters like Krillin,Vegeta, and Nappa in further installments...but we all know how that pile of horse crap turned out.
I'm kind of bummed that did not happen as I honestly enjoyed the film for what it was. Certainly moreso then the garbage that was Dragon Ball Minus at any rate and it's way less egregious compared to the numerous mistakes GT made. Tony Strongstyle did some great videos highlighting just show flawed and bad GT was in many ways. I guess that could be an example of a next big thing failure as i'm sure there was hope GT would go on for many years, but sales of merchandise for the show just weren't very good.
Not exactly a failure, but I would say streaming services.
Once advertised as a cheap, ad-free alternative to cable which has most of the same stuff. Now it's overpriced, bloated with ads(for some of these), and you'd have to pay for multiple services, just for a few shows. Not to mention they LOVE to strip shows off of their services, often times leaving you with no other option than to pirate.
I never liked streaming services prior to the bullshit I listed becoming more apparent. I found cable to be a lot more organized(since it's set up in "channels" which air certain types of content from a certain company, at certain times. I'd know what channel has a show I want to watch, and when I had to switch to that channel to watch said show.). Streaming on the other hand, everything is being shown at once, which really made it difficult for me to find/choose something I wanted to watch. I think I spent more of my time on Amazon scrolling, than actually watching.
And speaking of Amazon, half of the shows I liked I have to pay extra for. And to find a show that WASN'T locked behind an extra paywall, what did I do? MORE OF THE MIND-FUCKING-NUMBING SCROLLING!
Apparently, I'm not alone with my sentiment. Many people think streaming services suck, and are either returning to cable, physical media, attempting to pirate, or they just stop watching TV altogether(like me). I really hope this is the beginning of the end for these infernal services.
AMEN. It's wild how many hoops streaming forces you to go through to get a "library" you could get from cable, or a physical media collection shared among friends/family. No, trust me, I'm not shilling for cable (considering they make you get all sorts of channels you don't care about, yuck), but it is ridiculous how many companies went GAGA during the pandemic with all starting their own services, all haughtily convinced that theirs was "special and different" (snort) and be the next big thing and maintain cultural relevance (yadayada).
Also, yes, why AM I PAYING TO WATCH ADS Like OMGOODNESS. I was mostly okay when it was just Hulu and Crunchyroll (which once offered crappy but basic, free ad-supported versions) and Netflix, beyond that, ugh.
Meanwhile, the fact that Disney+ (_____ DISNEY) didn't become profitable until like the past YEAR really tells you how much of a bubble it all was. And to the detriment of consumers, as shows get moved around, seasons migrate, projects get new licenses elsewhere, companies team up to demand 2 streaming services for ONE (!) project, etc.
Also on a weird note, I think I have had times in my life where I watch Tubi way more than Netflix OR Amazon Prime (I find the search feature and "paywall" structure abhorrent). At least Tubi doesn't really pretend with things, it feels like.

Oh absolutely. I actually finished GT just to kinda see where it would go and it kinda went nowhere. I am always happy to see my boiii Android 17 there, and I think that they were trying to combine DBZ and DB into one coherent property, but geez, what a mess of a show. No identity whatsoever, and kept changing its mind on tone, with meh arcs that felt like they went on forever. I did learn recently that apparently GT was made to just keep DB/DBZ hype going into the 90s and keep Toei animation folks (and all the merch folks that come with that) employed, so it makes sense now.
Not sure if Netflix was going for phenomenon, and I may have already mentioned it here, but Glitter Force, their attempt to get Precure into the mainstream....with a "not 4kids but totally 4kids dub" in the 2010s. I can't imagine what they paid for THOSE rights, only to get only jaded animation internet critics watching it (AFAIK) and leave no cultural impact in the states. The Canadian English dub probably is more well-known and looked fondly upon, even here in the states!

Ehhh,I'd like to agree to disagree on this, like big time. Now I'm going to say this,GT was VERY flawed. The initial villains were dull,Baby could've been handled way better by the writers,Super 17...I don't even want to address,it was THAT bad,and the Shadow Dragon arc felt too rushed. YET it had one thing Evolution majorly lacks (In my opinion of course)...good ideas. Like in concept,if they were done well Baby and the Shadow Dragons could've been like,REALLY COOL. It's just that the execution was botched. In fact, while not at the top of my list,I do feel a canon Baby do-over could really work (Not the Shadow Dragons though, the whole point of overusing the Dragon Balls is defeated when Shenron gives benefits to repeat customers in stuff like Superhero and Daima.). And I'm not trying to bash on ALL live action anime remakes for having bad ideas,I can guarantee you if I was someone with little knowledge of the source material I would've somewhat enjoyed the live action Yu Yu Hakusho series a whole lot more than I did, albeit as a fan it is...well they could've handled the story and pacing better, not to mention actually do what the source material did and make Kuwabara y'know...likeable? But it could very well stand on it's own if I was going in blind, heck some changes I actually LIKED such as the whole first arc having some new additions I felt actually quite helped the story (Actually giving more of a reason for Yusuke's house burning down besides "Oh yeah there's a random arsonist going around I guess." is one big example.). But to be fair though,I do really get how GT was a failed next big thing though in the grand scheme of things and it was a good point you tied in here,I'm just saying I disagree saying Evolution was better than Minus and GT (Even if the original series and Z are a million times better than GT and Super combined.).

I do feel the fact about employment is a really good point about GT's production that is overlooked and I don't see brung up much often so I'm glad it's being brought to light here...Even if give it like 2 years and let's just say...a little show about pirates will keep people employed for a LONG time.

DC Nation (streaming service), just the whole concept of a streaming service built entirely around DC stuff. Like why did anyone think this would succeed???

Didn't even know this existed, just about shows how much of an impact it made.
