First of all, hope I'm posting this in the correct place.
This jingle has lived in my head since I was a child and I have always wanted to know who actually was singing it and who did the music and the iconic animation.
This ad really captures the zeitgeist of the late 80'searly 1990's and is just extremely catchy. Generations of people have grown up with it trapped in their subconscious but none of us know who the talent(s) were that created it or the vocalist who sang/spoke the lyrics or the composers who created the music.
I tried recently to figure this one out myself but hit a brick wall. Hershey's did replied to an email I sent about it.
"Thank you contacting us regarding our WHATCHAMACALLIT Bar.
Based on our records, the title of the ad is "Thingamabob" and the agency was DDB Needham. However, we don't have any information about the illustrator, composer, or musicians involved."
Since that email I have reached out to several addresses associated with DDB Needham (now known as DDB or "DDB Worldwide") but I have yet to receive any sort of reply since the first message went out in 2021. Patricia Volk who worked at DDB was also the person who came up with the name for the candy bar in 1978.
I've still been looking off and on, but I have nothing to show for my search.
