What is a "popular franchise" you have NEVER "experienced"

Yeah, Twilight is also fascinating to me because it also came of age alongside internet social media, since the original book was released in 2005, and gained MAJOR popularity in 2007-2008, so not only was it spread via word of mouth (as most novels are), it also spread RAPIDLY via the new landscape of social media. FB groups alone numbered in the tens of thousands of members (if not more, my memory is hazy here) and people were posting on the FB forums about it every single day without fail. This trend would continue with The Hunger Games, which believe it or not, I learned about via Stephenie Meyer herself on her personal blog! And later with Divergent, etc. 
I enjoyed the books and movies for what they were, and even picked up the new Edward book that was released a few years ago. But if I had been elementary school at the time, it probably wouldn't have appealed to me much either, since I was much more on the "tomboy" side then and detested most "girly stuff" like romance LOL
