I originally posted this to Reddit without much luck, and hoped I may be more successful with responses from others who remember this game here!
I remember being at primary school specifically between the years of 2004 and 2007 and having computer “lessons” on PCs using Windows XP and 2000, but I can’t find this specific game for the life of me. I vividly remember the sky and hill background of Windows XP and the curse of Bonsi Buddy being installed at the time, (we loved the parrot and the genie). It definitely wasn’t before 2004 as that was the first year I started school, and any later than 2007 I feel I would be too old to play it. The sweet spot would be between 2005-2006, I would guess the latter.
It’s worth mentioning I studied in the UK, so what I am looking for may differ from those living overseas.
The game in question was a “hide/find the teddy” game. It was 2D, in a simple non-significant cartoon art style, and a common hiding place for the teddy was behind a pillow on a sofa. I also remember a potted house plant. I can’t remember if there were multiple rooms, as it was a regular house setting. I just have a memory of dragging objects across the screen to “look” for the teddy, like moving a rug or a curtain etc. I also don’t remember if multiplayer existed, but something in my mind does think you could hide it yourself for the other person (possibly your computer partner) to find. This is most likely be a ‘pass and play’ sort of thing, where there is only one PC - meaning one person physically had to close their eyes whilst the other hid the teddy, rather than being able to connect to a secondary PC.
At the time, we were using Colour Magic software alongside it, which leads me to believe it was either a Flash game from a website only accessible via. a login given to schools who purchased it, or part of an educational package which was unavailable to the wider public. If it was part of a package, I think it was a software which had many more educational games, but this was one of the “fun” ones. I also remember that before every lesson our teacher would have to explain how to access said game, either typing in a password to log in via. another software or clicking through various folders to find the downloaded game, which for a four to six-year-old who didn’t have a computer at home at the time, was quite frustrating, and therefore memorable to me. It is one or the other, but I am not sure which.
My main hope is to find someone who was a UK-based primary school teacher around this time frame who knows what game I have in mind, as looking at it from adult eyes, I am quietly confident it was part of an educational package purchased by various schools and not your typical Flash game.
This is the most similar example I could find in regards to font and art style, but the gameplay is completely different: www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/t-t-21902-wheres-teddy-listening-game-resource-pack
Before posting this, I have come across an ‘RM Software’ which has a very familiar logo (the red and blue one is the one I remember) and may well be the developers of said game, though I am yet to find it on their archives.
I can’t think of any extra details that would be relevant, but I have been going through this memory in my head for years.
This will forever gnaw at me if I can’t find it! Please help me put a name to this nostalgic title!
