To me that thing was like pogs as it was really popular once upon a time than all of the sudden completely vanished overnight with no one talking about it ever again.
Dreams are boundless, imaginations are infinite, space is a multi-directional spiral & Akazukin ChaCha is my favorite anime

the fandom's still pretty active from what I know, just thankfully quieter now

Well, figures that the fandom still exists, meanwhile there have been other fads that possibly vanished overnight without many remembering or even so much as knowing about them.

That shows popular? I heard about it, but I never heard anyone talk about it. What kind of things do they do?
not a show, but a comic! it used to be much more popular in the late 2000's-early 2010's, but some fans still linger. it's about two groups of kids of different species who are trapped in a game and have to defeat a dog hybrid enemy together. lots of goofs in between and plot points to keep you interested for 8,000 pages.
Fighting game fandoms in general seem to really suffer from that toxic "git gud" mentality and they freaked out over Street Fighter 6 becoming more accessible to general players(a wise choice considering SFV coming out before it was finished to appeal to the hardcore fighting game players resulted in lower sales then expected).

I've pretty much said it before and I'll say it again; any fandoms related to ROBLOX. I've seen people trash on Regretevator and PHIGHTING for their fandoms alone.
And if it hasn't been mentioned before, the GoAnimate community.
I don't know if this was mentioned yet, but YouTubers tend to get some crazy fandoms. People who spend their free time watching, commenting and supporting their favorite channels. I see various channels like Mr. Beast and TheGameTheorist having some crazy fans.
And as a Swiftie I even think Taylor Swift has intense fandom too.
