I have a very soft spot for a lot of "90s/00s family movies." Stuff like Spy Kids, Cats and Dogs, Jumanji, Babe 1+2, Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey, the live action George of the Jungle and 101 Dalmatians, Casper, A Little Princess, The Parent Trap, Freaky Friday, etc.
I definitely like my share of "80s family movies" too, but the 90s movies are mostly what I grew up on so yeah.
Aaaaah!! Homeward Bound makes me feel so nostalgic!! I love that movie so much!
Have a blessed day! ~ππ ππππΆππΎππ
If I'm being honest, How to Train Your Dragon. I've struggled with obsession for a really long time, and the series has been my main focus for pretty much that whole time. But something about it just seems so comforting to me. I connect with it in a way I haven't connected with any other series or set of characters before. It's something I really can't describe.
I started watching the Dragons series with my boyfriend (many many years late lmao) and they're honestly really fun! They're not written in a way that makes me feel like I'm being talked down to/overly for Children:tm: and there are a surprising number of genuinely funny moments, even in earlier seasons. I love Dagur and Alvin, but Viggo's a genuinely spectacular villain, too.
For myself, I think Pokemon? I've been obsessed since I got Yellow when I was three, shortly after it came out, and have played every main series entry at least once since. I'm particularly fond of the third gen/Hoenn -- there's something a little special seeing Wingull or Tropius or Camerupt in new gens. Like you can always expect Pikachu and Charizard and Lucario but who thinks about Manectric! Or Gorebyss! It's a nice feeling seeing them remembered. :]
I so appreciate the mature writing in DreamWorks' Dragons; it makes the series age so much better, especially Race to the Edge. Viggo is such a freaking good villain. And Dagur is one of my favorite characters in the whole franchise. How far are you in the series yet? I don't want to spoil anything lol

Dagur is fantastic! We just watched Tone Death -- which I LOVED, I think Death Songs are so cool and having something of a musical episode was a delight. (Infatuated with Garff forever too)
Heavy agree though, I don't think there's actually been anything that's made me physically cringe like some other shows from the same era. It's really refreshing, honestly.
Honestly probably TF2. It's a weird one definitely, but I got into it around when very crazy things started to go down in my life last year. At the peak of all of the crap that happened, it was my hyperfixation.. and it still is. Anytime I was like, in a bad mood, anxious, sad, whatever, I'd just (try) to play TF2, I'd read the comics, watch videos about it, etc. This stupid 2007 game helped me get through a lot of things and I'm grateful for it. It's an obsession that's lasted way too long, but also it's a coping mechanism.
TBH, one of the more interesting aspects of a years-long worldwide global pandemic (IMO) was seeing what BECAME comfort media to people (or people realizing what WAS their comfort media)! I personally got really invested in older websites for some reason.

Bro, Tone Death is my Roman Empire, lol

I don't know about Franchise but a few of my go to shows are Recess and Pokemon (especially the Indigo League and Orange Islands arcs as I watched the dub when it first aired until the start of Johto then trailed off watching and came back sometime in Gen III and watched until Ash left the show)
I have a liking for some TV shows that seemed to get cancelled for various reasons (mostly Sci-Fi genre's) and I find them my comfort go to watches as I watched them when they first aired until they were cancelled. If I can find them, I like to watch them again from time to time. These include shows like: Early Edition, Odyssey 5, Dark Angel, Jake 2.0, Tru Calling, The 4400, Terra Nova, The Librarians, The Finder and Raising Hope. A few TV shows that didn't get cancelled that I like to watch as a comfort are Malcolm in the Middle, Scrubs, Due South and Bones. I also like to watch some movies that didn't seem popular or not as well liked, which I actually like such as Little Rascals (1994), Honey, I Blew Up the Kid, Commandments (1997 movie with Aiden Quinn), Little Man (2006, Wayne Bros) and Norbit (Eddie Murphy).

That pandemic is the time I got interested in lost media! Canβt believe that was already 4 years agoβ¦.

I saw the original Recess voice actors years ago at a con! They were super nice! And it was really fun to hear about the "behind the scenes" stuff, like how the show was pitched as a "universal" show since kids from all schools and all backgrounds tend to love their recess time and have at least a few good memories from it.

In 2014 I frequently brought this book with me to school to read for fun (older edition than the one currently advertised on Amazon) a.co/d/05OOTkoG My interest in this topic began in 2009
I have many favorite franchises that I hold dear in my heart, but special mention goes to Super Mario Bros. (It was the series that convinced me to become a Nintendo gamer), Disney and Pixar's Monsters, Inc. (as you can tell by my profile picture of Sulley and Mike Wazowski), and SpongeBob SquarePants (mostly for the older seasons, but I do like some of the newer episodes).
Despite the frustrations of normal day life we go through, the best thing to do about it is still being happy for our friends and family.

That's so cool! Recess is one of those I've rewatched every 5 years or so.
It probably doesn't count much as a franchise but another comfort of mine is the Eltingville Club, having grown up on fandom culture and experiencing the worst side of it. In a way, it helped me know that I was not alone in the damage that fandom culture did to me and that you don't have to stick with the same old friends who did nothing but hurt you and move on with your life. I also just really adore the main four. They can be so over the top. While nobody got as intense as Bill Dickey, Evan Dorkin was not straying too far from how fans can act.
