In March of 2023 TBS announced a reboot of the Spike TV fake reality show within a reality show "The Joe Schmo Show." It's a reality show/spoof of reality shows where everyone involved is an actor except for one guy who thinks it's all real, "Joe Schmo." More recenlty the Freevee show "Jury Duty" has been compared to the format. For those who aren't familiar the show was on for 2 seasons and then had a huge 10 year gap and returned once more in 2013. And for another 10 years that was it unitl the most recent announcement. I'm a huge fan of the series so of course I was stoked to see a new version. Here is the trailer that was released along with the initial announcement:
Anyways, over the past several months I have come to the conclusion that unfortunately there is a good chance this may never be released and the trailer could be the only footage ever seen, and I will explain my reasoning and I would be interested if anyone else has any more information on this that I could be missing. I would like some reassurance/confirmation that this is still happening. If not, I'd just like to hear what everyone's take on this is given all the infomation I have gathered, which is very little considering how much digging I have done.
-new TBS season was announced March of 2023. Now well over a year ago. No other commercials. No other official mention of it's existence aside from the initial announcement.
- the day it was announced and I saw the initial TBS twitter thread, I saw the Twitter of the new "Schmo" Ben who is featured in the trailer. He had one tweet saying he had a great experience or something to that effect, which seems to have been deleted. @schmoeben I believe
- I have asked people about it on twitter-the producers, the new host Cat Deely, one of the actors on social media and even the TBS twitter page directly what is going on and rather it is still happening. I received no response from anyone. I haven't asked everyone of course, but I'm starting to wonder if anyone of them are even allowed to say because of possible NDAs. I've seen other people ask on the TBS twitter page as well, to no response
- TBS is owned by Warner Discovery, which I'm sure most of you here know has recently been known for scrapping projects entirely even after completion for tax write offs: Bat Girl, Scooby Doo Holiday Haunt, Coyote vs Acme along with other shenanigans like deleting animated shows from Max which have no other official home media release
-One of the actors involved in the reboot, seems very passionate about this erasure of projects, could they have gone through the same thing and never have an audience to their work? I know some of this is a reach, but could be relevant.
-This is one that is quite strange. As you who are fans know each season has a "Fake" reality show that the Joe Schmo(s) believe he or she is in. For example in season 1 Matt thinks he's in a show called Lap of Luxury. As we can see in this new trailer for the TBS version the new fake show is called The Goat. Recently a new real actual show has been released on Amazon prime called The Goat. And it has a lot of the same silly looking competitions Joe Schmo is known for. Even the same sort of editing style when they close up on Animals for reaction shots like he hawk in season 2, if you know you know. It's as if they scrapped Joe schmo but instead turned the fake show which is meant to make fun of reality tv into a real actual reality tv show. From what I can tell that show hosted by Daniel Tosh seems to have a lot of humor to it as well, but it's an actual competition. In Joe Schmo, the Schmo is destined to win the game and all votes and comp winners are planned out and we see behind the scenes as they scramble to make everything work so the one real person doesn't figure it all out. I've only watched little bits of the Goat but it's exactly what the fake Joe Schmo shows would be like if they weren't fake. Even the filming locations and house seems to be the same from the new Joe Schmo trailer. The Golden Goat we see briefly in the trailer looks very similar to the golden goat in the Amazon show. I wouldn't be surprised if it is using the same props and costumes
-every few weeks I do a google search and filter by date and it has been basically radio silent about this. I haven't seen anyone else but myself mention the similarities between the new actual Goat reality show and the fake reality show we briefly see in this TBS teaser trailer. It's as if it never existed besides the initial announcemt and my own reddit thread I made about this which you can see here:

Sorry for the super long thread especially for my first post here. Some of this is pure speculation but the whole thing just seems strange like they want to sweep it under the rug. Could there be some legal issue with the real Goat show? I doubt this was something that was made before the tbs Schmo revival because it's so similar to an episode of Schmo but without the social experiment aspect of it all being fake. But I just kind of skimmed through a few episodes on Prime.
If anyone has any information on this at all or just wants to share their opinion on this even as a non-fan of this series, I'd love to hear what you think about all the information, or well the lack of information we have. The Joe Schmo is one of my all time favorite series and the seasons are so sporatic I was practically jumping up and down at the announcment and now I'm left not sure rather to be disappointed or just impatient but either way I am intrigued.
