This is my most wanted piece of lost media ever, and I would love for it to be uncovered someday even though it’s pretty much next to impossible lol.
When Fiona Apple first started to try and get her music out there in 1994, she was encouraged to make demo cassette tapes and start handing them out at random to anyone who would take them. She made 77 tapes, passed one out to a friend who was babysitting for a prolific music publicist, and was signed pretty much instantly.
As a result, the rest of her demo tapes became “lost”, along with two never heard before demo songs called “He Takes a Taxi” and “Not One of Those Times”. I say lost in quotations because Apple has a good idea of where they are, under her childhood bed or dad’s bed.
But yeah, you can’t find those songs anywhere and the tapes are probably near impossible to ever reach and I doubt will ever be released to the public. Fiona Apple has said that she’s glad her unheard demo songs aren’t out there because she feels like they aren’t solid pieces of her work.
Im SUCH a huge Fiona Apple fan though, I have an extraordinary machine tattoo and have her entire discography memorized. So I dream about those cassette tapes, I hope one ends up somewhere.
