I know. But, if you have to resort to using such tactics, you've already lost. Got into quite a few arguments over it in the past. By people that fully support it and just simped all the time lmfao
Exactly. It's no wonder why Pong took off. It didn't rely on women being on the cover. Instead, it relied on "what you see is what you get" & since it showcased the wild Ping Pong like 2-player experience, it was able to become a sensation in a matter of weeks after it launched.
Interesting, didn't know it went back that far. Anyways I do still like Top Hat Gaming Man but I do wish Youtubers like him wouldn't feel the need to use clickbaity thumbnails, it's actually become a bit of a hot button issue with Second Wind(basically all the people that used to do video content for the website The Escapist before it's parent company fired some of the higher ups and pretty much everyone quit the site in protest)as some of its channels have been using thumbnails(even Yahtzee)and there's a number of fans that understandably don't like it and feel like it goes against the spirit of an independent group like Second Wind.
There is a certain art to thumbnails, if they are funny or interesting and represent the video well that's fine with me(Nostalgia Critic's thumbnails are usually pretty good)but if they just have a bunch of random shit thrown in to try and grab people's attention(which is something I see a lot of drama channels doing)then that's no good.

I genuinely think a bad thumbnail can ruin a video entirely
I'm nothing but a mass of concrete yet my heart is calling my name

A bad thumbnail can be a sign that the channel is one of those click bait content farm channels like Lankybox.
Dreams are boundless, imaginations are infinite, space is a multi-directional spiral & Akazukin ChaCha is my favorite anime

For me, I just use some random thumbnails for some of my videos because I am very random. They may not catch eyes, but that doesn't matter. As long as I think they're funny to look at, I'll put it there. Not all of my videos are like this, but a couple of them have random thumbnails I put in for laughs.
I know SeventhRing will hate me for doing it, but to me it's kinda fitting with my absurdist humor & randomness. To me, it's not about click bait(the title tends to be what the video is about, mostly AtGames Genesis content which is like really freakin' niche), it's about dumb fun. I don't even plan on monetizing my channel. If I want to get money, I would have to have a real job. The channel is just a hobby of mine & I want to keep it that way.

What makes you think I'll hate you?

IDK I thought you'd say it sounded hypocritical considering what I've said about bad thumbnails?

Having gotten attacked and chased by dogs as a kid and even bit by some, to this day I get nervous when I see a dog. Even tried to adopt one but that just made my fears worse.
