Webkinz was definitely after my time, but I think my younger cousins had them. Pretty cute idea to have a stuffed toy you could have as a sim character in a game too. Sorry to hear about the Jr. version. I assume Webkinz is still around, but probably not the same!
Sadly, as much as I am nostalgic for it, modern Neopets just doesn't have the same energetic and animated spirit it did in the 00s. Also, NFTs, REALLY?!!!!

Unfortunately, yeah. They had a certain point where they were doing NFTs when those were a huge deal.
For Webkinz Jr. the entire site was shut down. Regular Webkinz is still around but it has had many changes since I first played.
Neopets does have some similar stuff like that. They shut down Petpet Park, Keyquest, Habitarium and several of their apps. A lot of this happened when Viacom/Nickeloden stopped running the site.
Wow, so instead of a company buying up the site and "more or less" ruining it (Disney with Club Penguin), the opposite happened here?

I just watched a video on the Dot Com Bubble burst and Netscape was mentioned a lot in it. Our first computer was a Windows 97 or 98, I think we went straight to Internet Explorer. Which is wild seeing as Netscape appears to have been the "OG thing" here???

Speaking of Google, back in 1998 I was in 10th grade. My French language teacher at the time introduced my small class to Google and she loved it. She was an early adopted of Google.

Yeah, sometimes, the most passionate people sticking around isn't the worst thing. Sometimes. And when it gets rediscovered or even discovered the first time by new viewers who get excited, it can be pretty cute. It's fun to scroll through forums or Youtube comments of viewers who are seeing it for the first time, and their own thoughts.
I'm in the very tiny Hamtaro fandom (at least tiny in the USA) and obviously the ones of us who are still there are the ones who still care. Very passionate people. Though TBF, I took a hiatus for years and "rediscovered" the show again, which was arguably an even more wonderful experience.

All wonderful games with (bizarrely) quality gameplay, presentation, music, and charm. I think they were directly published by Nintendo, which may have something to do with it. I still have Unite and Heartbreak myself, and played through a lot of Rainbow Rescue until I sadly hit a game breaking glitch. Wish they would make another game in that vein, but since AlphaDream just shut down, and Hamtaro was basically a flop in the USA, we will probably only see region-locked mobile games in the future :/ Ham Ham Challenge DID get an English release way after the series had lost any steam it had. Pretty weird. Rainbow Rescue as you likely know was an EU only release. There were also super simple but cute games on the old Cartoon Network website, you can still access them today via Wayback.

Pretty sure it has been mentioned yet but I'm still surprised Newgrounds is still kicking despite being clearly aged, especially in terms of the stuff people upload onto it. It's stuff like Friday Night Funkin' that manage to make it stand tall somehow.
I used to play a lot of it back in the mid 2000s, but then I got bored with it. I think my original account might still be there. If it is, it will turn 21 years old this month. I think I opened it on June 26th, 2003.

Makes you wonder if the people on it "just can't let the nostalgia go, man," and/or have grown dissatisfied with modern homogenized internet landscape. The Pandemic nostalgia rush and yes, Friday Night Funkin, probably revived some of the site's energy, I imagine. My partner still has his Gaia account online; he says he logs in every now and then "just because" but the site is basically DEAD at this point. Like there's no one to talk to anymore.

I only remember playing it briefly, not anything specific except for trying to make the pet resemble Blue the dog.

I knew about Rainbow Rescue but didn't bother asking my cousins in the Netherlands for it... There was also a Japan-only game called Nazo Nazo Q.
