This film commemorates the assassination of Richard Heydrich, one of Adolf Hitler's top henchmen, and the subsequent massacre of the village where the assassination took place. The film was originally a PRC - Producer's Releasing Corporation - production that was bought by MGM after production had completed - the film took a week to make, all told. At the request of the MGM officials, new scenes were shot in post production, and these scenes include: the inspection of the girls, the death of Heydrich, and the massacre itself. These were grafted into the film and it was finally released in 1943. The original version - the one without the scenes shot at MGM - is lost, though.
