If it did we'd have one of the worst losses of media since MySpace's data wipe or when Photobucket went subscription-only. It's been running for 24 years, there has to be literally billions of uploads now. I shudder to think of it... I ought to go save all my old uploads

We also need an Archive site for Deviantart as well in order to recover all of the art that already got deleted.

I'm surprised Dailymotion is still running to this day. Are they really solely just relying on advertisers?
I sometimes go there to find weird foreign stuff, or stuff that got copyrighted off Youtube. Or like a lost AMV. It's indeed pretty bizarre. No real identity.
Twitter, Elon has basically turned it into a new version of Stormfront and its just getting worse, more and more people are leaving and I don't think it'll still be here in 5 years.
But do we have any sites that as of now could replace it? Or do you see Bluesky, Mastodon, Hive Social, Threads, or any of those other sites as usurping it? Or perhaps a new site altogether?
As far as I am aware all the people basically moved to discord or tiktok, which makes the potential tiktok ban (which I don't see happening) more curious. I suppose they would move to youtube like the ex-vine people, which would be a strange line of website movement events.

For whatever reason, VidLii is still up despite the downhill direction it has been going. I have a feeling something will be eventually done because of how much illegal and hateful stuff people post in there. Really unfortunate because VidLii was a nice early YouTube simulator.

I feel like every attempt at a "Youtube replacement" just devolves in a "contrarian" dumpster fire.

Discord feels less "open" though since you have to join individual servers to see content, right? Is there even a proper feed? Not saying you're wrong, just curious

It's less open yeah, but the more restricted nature makes it much more fun and interesting than something like twitter (at least imo). If you don't like a server it's really easy to find another for your certain niche, not so much with twitter. It's basically what mastodon wants to do, but much better (once again imo). This is basically my two cents as someone who became active on discord during the great tumblr ban of 2018.
