Threads has come the closest, but what about Bluesky, Hive Social, or Mastodon? TikTok exists, but that's a different kind of audience and format. I keep seeing people start a new profile on the latest "Twitter replacement" and then just stop using it altogether in less than a month.

I find Tumblr to be a comfort. I can just scroll and look at all of my niche interests, like arcade machines or 80s architecture.

Pretty sure Local-heroes.fun is going to go later this year or a next year. Which is sad because getting a compilation of Local Hero info is very hard to do and is very important to me. Granted it's outdated as the creator quit. So it lacks any new forms or powers the Heroes have like Gekijin Zando's Titan Form and Mermaid Form.

If so then people moving to other wiki sites may be another reason (Pokemon,The Simpsons and Homestar Runner have their own dedicated wiki sites that in my opinion are way better than Fandoms due to the sites limitations,also unlike fandom these sites have NO ADS and I’d you’ve been on Fandom before you know how much of a life changer this is)

I have a feeling that The Dubbing Database will be among the few surviving FANDOM Wikis that'll still get a good amount of updates every week if they don't end up moving to somewhere like Miraheze or Neocities.

Emphasis on some but not all, things like the One Piece wiki are still going to be up but I guess it just depends on user activity

I hate to say it, but ALL the privacy alternatives to sites like twitter and reddit. Such as Mastodon and Lemmy. Only one I can see potentially surviving being Bluesky. Too many of these privacy alternatives have huge entry barriers for the common person. For example Lemmy vs. Reddit:

It feels like whenever one of the newest "twitter/Youtube/etc. killers" pops up, it always just becomes a worse version of the "OG version of twitter/Youtube/etc" it was trying to imitate. And yeah, for many, if NOT most people, the goal of social media is still...social and when none of their friends/family/extended circle joins in on it, it makes them question why they are on it in the first place. Why should I join say, Mastodon, waste time there, when my friends/family have no interest and I could just head back to Twittter X and see "real" content there? I'm no artist or musician either, so I'm not interested in a "public profile for business" or anything like that. WHICH would be useless anyway, if no one joins Mastodon!

dA and tumblr are still very active websites with dedicated userbases, if either of them die it will very slowly and painfully. dA is probably making hella money from AI gen people rn considering they take cuts from their "adoptables" function on the site. Seriously, if that site were to die in anyway it'd just be human artists leaving and it becoming solely AI gen crap. dA being up at all still is sorta surprising cuz they really do not give a shit about their userbase nor do they ever listen to user feedback.

Twitter will probably fester until Musk sells off the site or just runs it into the ground so hard that he's forced to shut it down. I bet tumblr will be sold again within the next decade though.
