I've been seeing all over Tiktok today that congress is trying to shut Tiktok down once again (tomorrow, 3/8/24.) It certainly is in their power, but come on—this is the umpteenth time in the past five years Tiktok has been "shutting down." How plausible really is this?
for real tho, people say stuff like this every single year. And what I find annoying is the fact that people actually believe it- like bro, they've been saying this since 2020 and nothing is happening, come on!!!
Yet another waste of time and money, thank you US government.
It rots your brain? So do a lot of apps. The short form is destructive? So are Youtube shorts and Instagram shorts. It's dangerous for youth? So are tons of American apps. It collects data on me? So do a lot of apps. People use it to do harmful things? People still use EMAIL to do harmful things yet I see no action on banning that.
I hear congress has passed it, and Tiktok's only chance of survival is if its current company sells it. Suppose it wasn't a hoax this time! We'll see what happens next.

Was this already attempted (at attempt at TikTok being bought by an American company) or am I thinking of a different app and company? Because I swear I've heard something like this before. I don't think I'm thinking of Musical.ly/Vine, or Amazon buying Twitch though.

I sort of remember that happening too, except I can't remember the details. Strange!!
From what i've heard the Chinese owners are being given six months to sell the company or it will be shut down, either way is fine with me i'm no fan of the platform myself honestly(let's just say I share Todd in the Shadows criticisms of it).

Hopefully it gets sold to owners who will do a better job of keeping nazis off there.

Knowing US tech companies, they're probably gonna be even worse about it...
"oooh, you're a- a freaked out child in the woods..."
It does feel like a huge blow for "Freedom of Speech" in the US and after watching the hearings, it's very motivated by out of touch xenophobia.
But on the other hand, I don't think the app is healthy for a lot of people's mental health. I think it has brought out the worse in some people. But I am also aware if the site was shut down, all these people would just move to another platform and continue to act awful.

Only reasonable thing to do if it gets sold is shut it down, set everyone free.

Last month for Black History Month, Cartoon Network made a couple of posts which featured Class of 3000. For years they have been acting like the show didn't exist which some theorized had to do with the lawsuit. But it is good to see that they are acknowledging it was a thing.
Think you mixed up your threads there.
