Once upon a time there was a successful scam failed convention called "Dashcon" that was hosted by Tumblr users. It's purpose was to unite the triggered of the world under one roof. Lots of shady business and failed promises on their end, but that's not the point.
On their site, they posted they would be selling a Highlights DvD of Dashcon for $20. However, since it was such a colossal failure, it's unknown if the DvD was ever produced, as nobody has ever claimed to own a copy.
The Internet Historian has placed a $100 bounty for a digital or physical copy of the DVD. So happy hunting.
interesting! i'd never heard they made a dvd until now (probably for good reason). you could probably find people who went to the con and/or donated to its campaign and ask them if they know anything else about it. (also, i'd recommended not calling them 'the triggered' next time, thank you!)
Sounds to me like another failure of the convention. I doubt highly that if they were scrounging to get 10K together or however much it was, then they would have enough to film it professionally.
Sounds like something that was advertised but never produced, like "A Day With Spongebob Squarepants"
I think we can safely move this to the "disputed existence" category.
I will help get this article started if the admins believe it deserves a section.
"Dashcon (Also Known As: Tumbl-con) was an event that took place on July 11-13th, 2014. The event was taped by amateur photographers with significant portions being uploaded to youtube, however the existence of an official DVD is disputed. As early as before the event, discussion of a DVD began with the somethingawful forum discussing a now dead link of dashcon's website discussing the "bonus DVD" that would be for sale after the event, which was said to include interviews and other extras.
On the day of the event, there was an immediate and public lack of finances, with the creators of the event making an attempt to scrape together $20,000 to keep the event together. Due to this, as well as a small showing, including some vendors leaving early due to lite sales and underaged persons being allowed into 18+ panels, the existence of a DVD officially documenting this event has come into doubt.
Possible theories:
- A DVD was produced but was never released due to the perceived poor quality of the event\
- A DVD was planned but due to financial restraints was never executed (raw footage may or may not exist)
- The DVD never left planning stage
- The website never discussed a DVD and Something Awful Forum was either misquoting or quoting an unofficial website."
