I believe it's a question of if it has been catalogued online in any way. A book simply being recalled wouldn't qualify as lost media if it's readily available, but if not I would say it fits the bill.
How about you? How will you live a life that faces death?

To anyone in Japan or planning on going there: Looking for this specific cat book with the toy. A few years ago I saw one on Amazon Japan after the recall was announced (it says it's sold out now) but when I tried to buy it it couldn't go through. I collect recalled toys and still play with sensory toys whether recalled or not. I wonder if the publisher thinks that having IDD would have to make me a literal infant... If anyone finds it, please digitize the book/toy and make 3D print instructions for the toy. Would be willing to buy the original via private eBay listing, although it will probably take me a while to save up for it.
I would try stalking on Yahoo Auctions or Mercari JP copying and pasting the Japanese title. Eventually you would use a proxy (Ex: Neokyo, FromJapan, those are the ones I personally use) to have a middleman help you purchase the book.
Let me know if you have any questions regarding proxy shopping. I've used them mostly for my anime figure/plush hobby these past years.

That was what I tried; I think the publisher was trying to remove listings, at least through Amazon, which has made this more complicated. I think the book was written by child development specialists; perhaps they'd be a lot more understanding of why I obsess over the exact same things even years later, rather than when I tried writing to the publisher (I know enough Japanese to get by, although my kanji literacy is limited - however typing in Japanese on Google Translate does convert kana to kanji so I've learned some that way) who didn't want to help since they labeled the book as specifically for ages 0 to 2 and thus think that nobody older than that would want it.

Yeah, if the book is online but it was recalled, it's not lost.

I haven't seen any recent listings for it. There is no ebook version.

If anyone finds this book and toy please post it on archive.org. It was only sold in Japan so if anyone plans on going there or has a friend there can you please try to look for it? I'd eventually want to buy the physical copy from whoever finds it but first I think the book and the toy sounds should be digitised. 脳がすくすく! ふりふりねこちゃん globalrecalls.oecd.org/#/recalls/http%3A%2F%2FPoliciesApplications.oecd.org%2FGlobalRecalls%2FRecall%2FEN%2FJP%2FE0000017120
