First, I want to say I apologize if this is not the right place to post this sort of thing, and thank you to anyone who reads this!!
Back in 2019, I was doing my yearly visit to Ohio to meet family. We went out to Applebee's for dinner, and while there, I heard a song that I have not been able to locate since. It was a generic pop song sung in English, probably a love song by how it sounded, and the singer sounded to be a young male. The oddest thing about this song was the chorus, and the reason I have remembered it for so long. It sounded exactly like this part in the U.N Owen Was Her? Touhou song (0:30 - 0:34 if the timestamp doesn't work).
Usually at restaurants, if they play music, I barely register it because it's so quiet compared to the chatter of me and my family. But this sounded so uncannily similar, it actually snapped my focus away from what I was talking about. My sibling who was with me at the time made the exact same remark to me as I had chosen not to say anything about it, so it wasn't just me who noticed how weirdly similar it was. I asked them about it again today, and despite this being 5 years later, they knew exactly what I was talking about as soon as I mentioned the "U.N Owen Was Her? song at Applebee's".
My issue stems from the fact I have no way to find this song. I never caught the lyrics because I was only focused on the melody of the chorus, which was just the male singer saying "Oh~" to the aforementioned melody. I've tried using Shazam (although as I only have the Touhou song to use as a stand-in, it only recognizes that), checking Applebee's playlists (as I think they frequently play using Spotify? I could be wrong), and asking around on other sites, but no progress has been made.
I don't remember this part, but my sibling remarked that at the time this happened, while the song was playing, they tried using Shazam on their own phone to get the song name. Shazam couldn't recognize it. Although, this could be because the song was too hard to pick up over the sound of the restaurant and not because it's lost, or something.
I'm not well-versed in radio music or English music for that matter honestly, so maybe this is actually a fairly common song and I happen to be unlucky in finding it. I'm just hoping the right person reads this and knows exactly what I'm talking about... I would love to hear this again some day.
