1. I can't remember how I discovered it, only that I just used it one day and that was that.
2. I can't remember the exact first video but my earliest was watching AnimatedJames' Chaos High series that was reuploaded onto YouTube from Newgrounds
3. I miss the annotations feature
4. Worst feature by far is the mini-player stopping when watching a video marked "for kids"
5. I believe 2016 was an all time peak for meme culture and is far better compared to the current one

When I think AnimatedJames I think marvel musical,it’s a shame it never got a sequel

That was my favorite too but I only watched them once.
For me, it was back when I was in middle school in 2006. I was on some Nickelodeon fandom message boards and people would occasionally link to the personal channels of the actors who would post behind-the-scenes vlog and sketch content. After that, I was hooked.
2. Do you remember the first YouTube video you ever watched? Is it still available? (Adding a link is optional, but you don't have to.)
^ The above was it for me. I don't know if it's still up anymore since I'm having a hard time finding it. If it wasn't that, then I'm sure it would have been stuff from the Zoey 101 podcast if anyone remembers that, like S1 or S2 for sure.
3. What's a feature on YouTube that you miss terribly?
Video responses and annotations. Holy shit, I miss that. It was so practical and it made engaging with people a lot easier, especially the messy communities I was in where people would squabble, debate, and just generally shit talk each other. It was better than waiting to find out someone made a video about you through the grape vine. From just a pure nostalgia and aesthetic perspective and not a practical one, the user channel customization was great.
If anyone wasn't around for this, you could classify your channel with a specific flares; like director, writer, comedian, guru, etc. It had no real function that let you search for content creators that way, but it was a neat, stupid way to feel "cool". There was also the various layouts you could choose from (like 12 pre-set themes) and we eventually had the ability to make our own any way we really wanted like with the MySpace profile design websites. It didn't have this totally sterile look to it like it does now.
4. What's the worst feature that you personally believe YouTube put out?
I would say Google+ with how utterly useless it was to the general community at large, not to mention how Google and YouTube more or less forced everyone to get it.
5. If you could go back to a specific time period in YouTube's lifespan, which one would it be?
Probably the one I grew up with for the most part, so 2006 to maybe the tail end of 2013 or so. It was a tire fire at times, but nowhere as bad as it is now.
Every time I remember annotations I think of this.

I need to save this to my reaction folder. This is the kind of energy I feel I have online these days.
Is this a real annotation? If so what video was it on?
Hello!
I believe this may be a real annotation, as annotations didn't fully disappear until around 2018-ish. However, I don't know the exact origin of this image. Possible lost media search? Maybe. The video might be long gone though.
This is going to sound dumb, but after YouTube launched, I initially steered away from it as I didn't like the name "YouTube" but I joined in 2007.
1. How'd you discover YouTube? - Don't remember. It was in late 2006 or early 2007 I first discovered it.
2. Do you remember the first YouTube video you ever watched? Is it still available? (Adding a link is optional, but you don't have to.) - No, but the earliest videos I remember seeing when I joined in 2007 was of a video of a Canadian man playing panpipes and someone playing "Inisheer" on an Irish low whistle. The first channels I subscribed to, Jpizzle1112 (Now named Jogwheel): www.youtube.com/@jogwheel and Matthew Santoro and his vlog channel, Jory: www.youtube.com/@jory and TayZonday
3. What's a feature on YouTube that you miss terribly? - Being able to dislike comments. Before that was disabled after the Google+ integration and never fixed, when a comment got disliked, it would go further down the comment section. If the comment got enough dislikes, it would get hidden. That and customisations on channels like being able to have a custom backgrounds and links to "shows" down the side of the channel which took you to different playlists of videos.
Also annotations. I remember some people used to use them to fix a mistake they said in a video or to add further info, but some also used them to make "adventures" where one video had multiple annotations that could take you to unlisted videos so it was a bit like an adventure game with multiple endings. I even remember one video I watched had a hidden annotation that if you found it, took you to an unlisted bonus video related to that one.
4. What's the worst feature that you personally believe YouTube put out? - Removing channel customizations like custom backgrounds and removing annotations. Also being unable to dislike comments or see dislikes on videos.
5. If you could go back to a specific time period in YouTube's lifespan, which one would it be? - Between 2006 and 2014 (Or before Google+ and its integration with YouTube and the algorithm change that hurt many channels views and stopped many of their subscribers from seeing their new uploaded videos). I would like to go back to when channels had more customisation, video responses were still a thing, you could not only see dislikes on videos, but actually dislike a comment and it would get voted down instead of nothing happening when you click thumbs down on a comment.
Speaking of Google+, anyone remember the ridiculous spam of "Bob is building an army" that lots of people were putting on so many peoples videos comments as a kind of protest after Google+ was integrated with YouTube? All that did was spam videos comments and annoy some people. If you don't know, it was this: www.slimanimation.com/published/40684
