Old items and things becoming popular again

There was actually something of a fad around "nostalgic mix tapes" a few years ago, at least in entertainment (maybe 90s nostalgia in creators?). I think I remember them being referenced in both Regular Show and Over the Garden Wall, which were 2010s series?

Honestly speaking, as someone who owns three VCRs (which I have accepted makes me 'weird' in 2024, apparently) and has a strong attachment to analog media, I don't think videocassettes will ever see a full-on revival in the same way vinyl has.

Obviously the 2020s have been a bit of a collecting boom for the format and all that, but we're not gonna end up at a point where companies start seriously releasing their movies and stuff on the format once again and you can go to Walmart and buy the latest films on tape like how you can go and buy stuff on vinyl nowadays. While there may be disagreements on it, there are people who think listening to something on vinyl sounds better than listening to it via streaming (the most popular way to listen to music nowadays) and while streaming movies and TV shows have their issues with bitrate and audio quality (seriously even 4K streams have audio compression similar to that of a DVD and IIRC I think the bitrate of basically all 4K streams is worse than the bitrate you get on a 1080p BD, not even a 4KUHD one), watching something on video is very much not a superior experience.

Anyways something that really needs to make a comeback - the headphone jack. Bring. back. the. headphone. jack. I could go on a whole ass rant about this but I'll just cut the chase here - the batteries in your wireless headphones will die at some point and it'll just become landfill at that point. Good quality wired headphones can last for literal decades. And having a headphone jack does not preclude you from using wireless ones if you want to whereas having no headphone jack does unless you get a dongle or buy USB-C ones (and then you'd likely also have to buy a splitter because your phone is only going to have one USB-C port so how else are you gonna charge your phone and listen to music at the same time?)

And yes the headphone jack is old, it dates back to the 19th century and the 3.5 mm jack that we're all familiar with is from the 1950s

I already have a VCR.

If it outputs an NTSC signal it can connect to a North American or Japanese VHS deck. This can be done via RF, composite, or S-video.

A very limited number of VCRs were manufactured with HDMI out; I don't know about in.


As for me? I use an HDMI > RF converter.
