Now im not implying that every mascot horror games are boring, Poppy playtime isn't actually that bad (Its just MOB Games that are a little greedy) It that dumb game "Garten of Banban" that started it all.
Now there has been copies of the same gameplay, lore, detail. The story is always about missing children and some closed place intended for children, and they make mascots alive for the most STUPID reason. There not even scary anymore. Hell, garten of banban 1 was so bad it made me laugh.
I am working on my own horror game but copying other stories and gameplay is just so lazy its not even worth it

You strangled my attention when it was minding its own business and yanked it right over to you when you said you were making your own horror game. I’m curious, what is this game about?
Yeah, I find this and analog horror way long overdone at this point. I would argue that "mascot horror" like Garden or Poppy is mostly aimed at easily scared 8 year olds so it's "not for me" but eh, still don't like it.
I feel like a lot of these horror games are inspired by FNAF where the characters are creepy yet not too scary so you can make them into cute plushies and toys.

thanks for asking. It's about this daughter of a man named elijah that goes to is fathers company. It is a building for workplaces (for adults) and she finds a project that leads to thousands of miles of underground land that people were never meant to see
I dont want to spoil anymore but I dont want to include death or children a lot because a lot of horror games have those elements.
btw the "monster" in the horror game (cus you cant have mascot horror without "mascot) is a "gecko" I just wanted a gecko in my game. Need I say more. I dont know why I want a gecko, maybe there just so cool looking and cute (sometimes)?
Unpopular opinion, but I think it was never good to begin with.
Yeah I always thought FNAF sucked donkey dick, seems like it's mostly for kids or Youtubers who wanted to make viral videos.
I actually was kind of fascinated by the first FNAF game (I'm a sucker for unconventional suspenseful media/lore, as well as passionate indie projects) and its concepts/theme/gameplay at the time, FNAF just got ran into the ground SO _____ QUICKLY and overwhelmed by Matpat #FNAFdom tweenyboppers (and later preschool babies with endless plushes) that I was like "Eh, maybe not." (I get that fandom doesn't mean a product is bad necessarily, but you get my point)

The game's story is waaaay to much like it should have stopped when the purple guy died. But no they just had to keep adding more. Like how the hell is he still alive like just rot.
But now since matpats gonna retire i guess nobody is gonna care anymore about the story.

it's FNAF fans are going to pick up what matpat left down ok and and fnaf should end at UCN
History often repeats itself. Remember the surge of crappy mascot platformers? Or the boom of crappy FPS games? I'm sure in a few years time these same people will move on to a different moneymaking genre.
I feel that most of these crappy "mascot" horror games have potential to be good - even you, BanBan. If they were just made by people who saw something other than dollar signs, there could be a really scary experience there... or at least something with a decent art style.

I remember Punky Skunk and Gloom. Gameinformer had a feature in one of their magazines about worst mascots and Awesome Possum was pretty high up there, the most blatant Sonic rip-off of them all with some lame shoehorned in environmental message(which basically just amounts to the occasionally random trivia question)that's only really noteworthy for being one of the first games to feature digitized voice-acting. Bubsy wasn't that bad though, I actually enjoyed the Genesis games and Woolies Strike Back,3-D was dire but to be fair it was one of the first 3-D games made so there were going to be some growing pains.

Maybe it's the fact that I'm old (not really but I'm 27), but I never understood the appeal in mascot jumpscare horror games.
Just seems like a genre that, at least from my outsider's perspective, primarily exists to try and be the latest flavor of the month horror game popular among preteens that YouTubers who do 'lore' and 'theory' videos cover for a bit while they're at their peak popularity and also get a set of blind-box figurines sold at stores like Walmart and Target. And, inevitably, these figurines just end up as shelfwarmers because it takes time to design and produce toys and figures, so they end up on store shelves as the fad is dying out.
There's something to be said about the "mascot horror" phenomenon as the natural extension of the inevitable effect capitalism has on art: it squeezes it dry like blood from a turnip.
Somebody saw the unintentionally huge kid demographic of Slender, Containment Breach, *especially* Five Nights at Freddy's, and got dollar signs in their eyes. Then the entire horror genre was flooded with a chain of increasingly shitty cashgrabs. That's what happened. It's horror media for kids now, because that makes more money. "Advertiser friendly" everything.
If you think Garten of BanBan started this, you've not been paying attention - horror indie games have been on this slippery slope since at least 2012.
_alexpine_ on discord. 2018 was HOW many years ago?!?! If RPGMakerFan12 is so good, why isn't there an RPGMakerFan13? lostmediawiki.com/User:BrightyLighty

im noticing that a whole bunch a new mascot horror games are appearing more often then ever (they look terrible) and i feel like these "horror" games keeping appearing since so many people are quitting that they want to make a game that they want to review there game before its too late.
uhyeah covers about these issues a lot especially on his uhyeah gaming channel. and he explain why its such a bad trend. You're totally right about everything with those figurines that will never be bought ever.
(btw a new mascot horror game came out and it costed 200 dollars, 200! People are doing anything to get popular)
