"Breaking it Down with Serena" was an MTV docu-series broadcast in 2002 hosted by Serena Altschul. She would later become a CBS News corespondent in 2003.
Each episode focused on a different aspect of modern society that MTV executives thought would appeal to their audience. Very little is preserved about this series, only one episode is listed on IMDB and no digital episode listings are known to exist.
While going through my recorded tape collection, I came upon an entire episode of the series with low quality audio but serviceable video. I spent a week cleaning it up before posting and I believe it's perfectly viewable now. A copy has been uploaded to the internet archive as well.
This is the only known episode of the show to be preserved digitally (as far as I'm aware) as it has never aired on any other channel or gotten any kind of physical release.
The episode's full title is "Breaking it Down with Serena: Marijuana", alternately titled as "The Business of Bud", and was recorded sometime in late 2001/early 2002 and released on MTV in 2002.
It follows Serena's quest to better understand the U.S. and Canadian Marijuana industry as it was in 2002, both legal and illegal. On her journey she encounters users, street pushers, border patrol agents, crime lords, scientists, psychologists and growers while traveling to over 7 different marijuana hot-spots.
