Fairly recently its been brought to my attention that there is a lost special from The Banana Splits Adventure Hour show that had Characters from the Show visit the Splits to introduce the upcoming show. There is every little info about it but here's what I have manage to find out about it.
It has been stated to have only aired ONCE and it had to be sometime in 1969 before H.R. Pufnstuf aired for the first time on September 6, 1969 as this special was made to advertise the shows upcoming airing.
We also have a basic plot synopsis thanks to several photos from it resurfacing and this is what it had to say
"The Banana Splits Adventure Hour." This photo is from a rare TV special, which introduced audiences to NBC's new Saturday Morning line-up in 1969. Jack Wild (from Sid & Marty Krofft's "H.R. Pufnstuf") is also featured, showing the Banana Splits where Living Island is, on the map. This special aired only once."
We know also know Billie Hayes reprised her role as Witchiepoo for the special as well (although no photos showing this have surfaced yet) as its been stated by multiple sources. Here's another quote.
"Hayes is best known for her portrayal of the comical witch Witchiepoo on Sid and Marty Krofft’s show “H.R. Pufnstuf” from 1969 to 1970. From there, Hayes reappeared as Witchiepoo on “The Paul Lynde Halloween Special” and the series finale of “The Banana Splits Adventure Hour.”
and as i stated earlier some photos from it have surfaced so here's what they look like.
EDIT : I found some more additional info about it and heres what else i found , I quote
"The Krofft brothers credit the series' success for making possible their own entry into television, H.R. Pufnstuf. NBC picked up the Krofft series, which was launched on August 30, 1969, during an hour-long special hosted by the Banana Splits"
Editional quote
"Another "fall preview" show, called The Banana Splits And Friends (not to be confused with the later half-hour syndicated package The Banana Splits And Friends Show) aired in The Banana Splits Adventure Hour's regular timeslot on Saturday, August 30, 1969. The latter show served as a "fall preview" for NBC-TV's 1969–1970 Saturday morning lineup, and was produced by Don Sandburg (who was best known to Chicago-area TV viewers as "Sandy the Tramp" from WGN-TV's Bozo's Circus) for NBC-TV. The special featured appearances by Jack Wild (Jimmy of H.R. Pufnstuf)"
This info gives us a airing date for the special being August 30th 1969 , 7 days before H.R. Pufnstuf aired for the first time and that the special was around a hour long.
Another edit : This is also def a Season 2 episode judging by Snorky's costume. Although we cant see much of Snorky the way the trunk looks + the fabric texture and color match up with the Season 2 Snorky costume. its also been stated to be like a "Series finale"
Another edit : I found a website that archived the airing times for shows , including the day this special aired and we know what time it would've aired on and what stations!
WFBC (WYFF) Ch. 4 Greenville, SC (NBC)
10:30 Banana Splits (preview of NBC's new Saturday-morning shows: "H.R. Pufnstuf," "Jambo," "Here Comes The Grump," the Pink Panther, Heckle and Jeckle)
Unfortunately I have still not found any video that would have recorded this block , but I'll keep looking.
Edit 1/8/2024 : Found more pictures from the special after searching some old ebay auction archive sites.
Another edit : Found a PDF scan of a magazine from the time it includes more photos and info about the special!
