The following two scenes aired on television c.1988-1993. While airing on television, I don't believe it was a sitcom. The cinematography was similar to a motion picture appearing on television or a made-for-television movie. It was a contemporary setting. These two scenes could be from two different programs, though I've always remembered them as the same program.
Scene #1 Aired near the beginning of the program, within the first 5-10 minutes (I think). Setting: active, not overly crowded, dive bar; may have had a tropical theme, but located in the city. The bartender or bar owner is a large man, possibly Asian. There is an encounter in the bar. Tensions escalate; impending bar fight. Just before the fight, the bartender - either to mock someone, annoy someone, or prompt the fight - lifts his shirt. Baring his bare chest, he makes a "nya-nya-nya-nya" noise. Fight ensues.
Scene #2 Seemingly aired after the bar fight scene, if it was the same program. There are at least two characters: the lead, who is a police or some type of investigator; the other is a local, a pedestrian in the city. Setting: busy but quiet train yards of a large American city. All I remember is the dialogue (which I paraphrase):
Lead: "Excuse me, I'm trying to find information about --"
Local (in Spanish): "¿Qué? No hablo inglés."
Lead: "What? Oh...eh, ¿Dónde ... el hombre...?" [something to the effect of "do you know where so-and-so is?"]
Local (annoyed, in English): "Yeah, I don't speak Spanish either."
Based on these scenes alone, I assume it was a comedy. Or trying to be one.
