Given the recent leak of Blue Prints, there's been a huge influx of people coming in excited about the discovery and discussing how it was found, what it is, and what to look for next. Many of these people, as well as a large fraction of this community, are mainly focused on looking for children's media or even more specifically lost media from Nickelodeon. If you've read my previous thread, you know I think this particular subject is inflated compared to others. Regardless of my feelings, I've seen an abundance of people complaining about the amount Nickelodeon hunters and much of their behavior and find it inappropriate.
A majority of complainers have boiled down that community to being "children" who don't know better and are spouting non sense. I will agree, stereotypically speaking I do see I lot more annoying conversations and overall bad manners come from the Nickelodeon community, but one that is not all of them and two it is extremely insulting to write it off as them being "children." Many of the hunters I see in this community are around 15-30. Many of these people have poor social skills, are used to speaking another language, or have a mental disability. All of these can come off as sounding "childish" over text. Many of these people are also quite new to the overall lost media community and have mainly stayed within the children's media bubble, which works fairly differently than here. They are not accustomed to how we typically function as a community, and they themselves are usually not your average neurotypical person.
To complain about all the "kids" coming in looking for Nickelodeon stuff is extremely insulting to those people and honestly kind of infantilizing. They are all capable of learning. Is someone saying something you don't like or is derailing a conversation? Explain to them why what they are saying isn't appropriate. Even your average, first-language-is-English, neurotypical thirteen year old will not come off childish over text. Many of the people (not all) within the children's media community that come off this way to others are not children, so please, show some respect and have empathy. They are passionate for their subject, just like we all are. Be mindful of their happiness and simply introduce them to how this community functions. Do not treat them like they are hopeless and stop ignoring or belittling them.
I understand complaining about how this particular subject tends to be given a bigger spotlight than others, but complaining about the community itself is over. Be polite, be welcoming, and do something about it.
