Hey, folks! I've been fascinated with lost media for years, but I've never interacted with the community before. But I've been inspired to plunge right in, because I've come across a find that I thought was worth sharing for preservations sake.
I'm fairly confident that this Chinese Dub of Takara & Sunrises' "Densetsu no Yūsha Da Gān" (The Brave Fighter of Legend Da-Garn) has had no documentation online, possibly for over 30+ years. I discovered this VHS tape several weeks back in an antique store in Wisconsin of all places, only selling for $2.00. At first, The tape seemed to be of Japanese origin, but while watching it, my keen sisters noticed the subtitles had far more detailed kanji than what's normally found in Japanese. When translating the VHS case, it occurred to us that this release was different.
When researching the tape and this particular dub online, I found no mention or traces of it's existence. There's a prominent "19" on the tape cover, which seems to mean "Volume 19". "Densetsu no Yūsha Da Gān" had 46 episodes total, while this tape includes episodes 37 & 38, so it's safe to assume 23 volumes of this dub were released. The publisher, Pro-Insight International, located in Taiwan, has been documented for licensing dozens of anime, but as far as I'm aware, "Densetsu no Yūsha Da Gān" can't be found anywhere on any list. They seem to have a website, but it's suspended in my area and I have no way of properly accessing it. If you wanna trying reaching it, here's the link: www.my-cartoon.com.tw/
Actively searching for the remaining volumes of this mysterious dub is currently a daunting task for myself, so for now I'll just present my little discovery as is. I decided to leave in all the promos in my transfer, as those also have likely gone lost. You can watch my Internet Archive upload here: archive.org/details/2023-08-31-14-15-08
I've uploaded my transfer to Youtube as well (right here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=kXlXPiBKhuU&t=2065s) but it has been claimed and blocked in Japan by Bandai Namco Filmworks, so it may eventually be taken down. If anyone has any information on this dub, the companies behind it, or any whereabouts about the other releases in this series, I'd love to hear what you know! I'm no expert on foreign anime releases & dubs, so any insight you folks have is absolutely welcomed.
Have a blessed day!
