I think one of the last social media things I mentioned was also New York??? What weird times we live in.
It's not the companies' problems for the most part. It's their users who are the problem here.
I am of the same mindset. I don't know how many times I bring them up (too much LOL) but while my older conservative religious community COMPLAINED endlessly about immoral media, BUT, as an example, they would have NEVER thought to sue the local movie theater over offering mature movies, or a website or magazine or store selling mature movies, or a cable channel offering mature movies, or a local library offering mature movies and books, or a bookstore offering mature books, or their kids' buddies or families who sneaked mature materials behind their backs (which 100% happened). Heck, I remember a "scare" article about kids being able to get R rated movies from the library over 13 years or so ago and it BARELY made a dent in anything LOL. My community recognized that parenting was the PARENT'S job. My own parents told me NO growing up. Do I think they were right all the time about telling me NO? Of course not, but I respect them for not going out of their way to force media to "babyproof" things for their own personal beliefs.
I kinda wonder how far they will go to limit access to """"woke"""" sites. Would they go as far as only allow stuff like this?:
Honestly none of the stuff shown in the video is shocking in the slightest, it's just your usual average Tuesday.
Heck, for all its astounding popularity and influence, social media itself is surprisingly unprofitable for many companies (at least at this point). It's why few new platforms even make it beyond MAYBE a year of notable activity. And "anti-woke" ones often crash and burn even worse. Trust Social is BEGGING for funds right now. And ever heard of The Right Stuff? "Anti-woke" dating site that flopped HARD after the male to female ratio turned out worse than "woke dating sites," and like 90% of its ladies were scammers and/or bots. Twitchy was created to compete with Twitter X yet I don't think a single "right wing" person in my life uses it. Any "Youtube clones" period have started strongish and then just...caved in. When you make something out of sheer hate, something you get Shrek and other times you make...Truth Social or The Right Stuff XD Note: "Limiting access" to sites is very much anti-freedom and anti-free speech and anti-free market, no? Seems pretty hypocritical. And the most I can think of in terms of censorship is the multiple issues with foreign bots and tankies (and how to handle them, see the recent Iran bot farm controversy), outright harmful sites that encourage stuff like "let your kid die from not using modern medicine because modern medicine is not God's will," outright scams, and Reddit being bizarrely trigger happy on banning benign comments (and by proxy benign users) on certain heavily charged topics (like the Israel/Palestine crisis).

You know, if this doesn't come to pass despite the schools in some states being effected with such unfortunate censorship of topics because white conservative parents don't want to hear about it, then I wonder if it could lead to some sort of online counterculture by the victims of such control, especially the students. It's not like it's North Korea where they have the true abilities to censor anyone & I feel that whenever something like this happens, there will always be the rebellious folk that spring up from said horrors.
What kind of music, videos or games could come from that counterculture I wonder?
Dreams are boundless, imaginations are infinite, space is a multi-directional spiral & Akazukin ChaCha is my favorite anime

Yeah that's the thing-by having allowed and pushed such widespread internet access all over this nation in the name of...something (capitalist gods?), I don't think pushing something like Project2025 will go over as "successfully" with newer generations as it did in say, Iran in the 1970s or Evangelical Christian culture in the Bible belt of the 80s/90s. Internet archive has driven hard to preserve access to tons of materials, there's a Minecraft library of censored books, people maintain drives of materials, VPNs exist, etc. Heck, even the great firewall of China has PLENTY of holes, and they've arguably had the most globablly successful one, created straight from the ground up.
Even the 1960s and 70s counterculture existed because the 1950s culture (it turns out) wasn't all that great for everyone.
I think people WILL seek things out now. They won't just accept the narrative, heck, look at Reddit which can't even SEEM to agree on a narrative on something like the Israel/Palestine crisis. And to an extent, that's GOOD. We need that back and forth dialogue, it's part of our First Amendment rights to TALK.
I'm also interested to see how the continual population decline will affect what new media we get. Look at how much Japanese media of the 2000s focused on NEETs/slice of life/school life/moe after over a decade of mediocre economic performance vs. the insane, colorful, bombastic, fun, retropunk shows of the 1980s Japan. Of course, gloomy media existed in 1980s Japanese media as well, but that 80s spirit never really fully came back IMO.
I don't like to be sensationalist and doom-y the way so much of the internet is but...this is bad. Could it die? Or get tossed back up and sued to oblivion? Just outright bribed out of existence by exploitative tech giants? (ugh)

Let's hope so.
And they wonder why teenage rebellion happens...

Exactly. This isn't the 1950s anymore where they can just 100% "bubblewrap" youth and restrict all access to information. If China, Iran, North Korea, etc. can't make the great firewall work, then why do they think our government can?

Where the hell has been the outcry about this like there was about net neutrality? They are going to take what little we have left from us, and literally nobody is making an outcry about it.

Yeah KOSA was one of those topics that was discussed quite profusely when it was first proposed, and there have been a few "sprinkled" published articles about it since then, but it boggles my mind that NO major Youtubers or influencers are discussing it. When it's a threat to their entire careers! A few national publications, but no major internet personalities. I DEFINITELY knew about SOPA, net neutrality, etc. because THOSE were discussed widely, but this? Not a peep.
I know obviously it's an election year and people are likely more concerned about Project 2025, abortion rights, immigration, employment, inflated prices, the housing market, etc. then stuff like KOSA (and TBF we have already been worn down by stuff like the adpocalyse, "deteething of the internet" and COPPA) but still, when free speech is involved, this is something that should concern EVERYONE.

It really is.

Sad part is I've been getting emails from some progressive groups I've signed online petitions for promoting this bill like it's somehow a good thing. Hopefully common sense will prevail.
