Time traveling back to 2005, a little puzzle game called Meteos was released for the Nintendo DS; a "falling-block-puzzle" game with the objective to send as many blocks into the sky or at opponents as possible. As Meteos grew, many publishers came out to try and get Meteos ported to other platforms, mainly mobile phones, but most importantly, the PC.
Meteos Online was released back in 2006 for Windows PCs and was closed in 2007 for unknown reasoning. The main differences between the PC port and the original DS port, is that players would be using a mouse and/or keyboard to control their playing-field, which results in very fast pace gameplay. I would go into full detail about Meteos Online, but I'd rather not fill up this whole page with information. If you'd like to read more, a friend of mine & I made a page on the Lost Media Wiki a couple months back (under my friend's account), you can view the wiki page here.
The many other ports/versions of Meteos have been either lost and/or don't include over the internet gameplay (Meteos Wars doesn't really count sense most people don't have a Xbox 360 anymore, nor does the game have Xbox One support. Plus, the 360 marketplace is closing down July 2024, very sad ). A group of my friends and I have been trying to contact as many people as we can that have either worked for or played Meteos Online. Overtime, we did get some replies, but we still hit a dead-end. If, at least, the client used to play Meteos Online was found, it would get us closer to reviving what could have been the competitor to something like Tetris.
If you have any questions or stuff you'd like to share about this topic, I'd be happy to talk!
