The Land Before Time: Lost Deleted Scenes

EUREKA! I HAVE FINALLY RECEIVED A RESPONSE! Oh crap, sorry for yelling, but I was starting to think nobody cared about the search lol. Thank you for the response. Back o topic though, what you said is probably true. The same happened with rock-a-doodle, in which one of the animators (Jean morel) had uploaded the skunk pie scene (I’m kinda tempted to start a separate thread for that, in case he might have a test screener cut of the film).

But for these scenes, I feel like if someone had them, they would have turned up by now. We might be able to convince one of the crew members to go look for it, but from there, we can only hope.

I feel like some film record label like Kino Lorber, Criterion Collection, or Shout Factory could be licensed the rights to dig into that archive and find something.

It helps that some of the scenes were cut a mere 2 weeks before the film was supposed to release. I seriously doubt they don’t have at least a VHS workprint of those cuts of the film. I think the majority of the cuts post-April 1987 still exist in some form. 

There’s also the fact that the executive producers on the film, Steven Spielberg and George Lucas are film preservationists. Any film he has directed or produced, Spielberg made sure to preserve scenes that were cut. That’s why the jurassic park deleted scenes still exist, despite never being released. George Lucas also preserved most of the deleted scenes from the early Star Wars movies. 

So Mr. Coat asks: “So why would both filmmakers approve of the removed scenes being destroyed?! I feel like there’s a longer story here”. 

Honestly, I’ve always been interested in deleted scenes from 80’s animated movies, especially don bluth films. They are so damn underrated.

Unfortunately, this is false. The final scene that got cut (original ending) was removed about a week before the film came out. This cut was never shown in theaters, and the people remembering it are probably experiencing the Mandela effect. 

However, this cut was sent out to a film critic by the name of Hal Hinson. He claimed the movie to be 80 minutes long, which is how long the post-production cut was before the additional edits occurred. All the edits at this stage were 100% completed. 

As for the Hal Hinson review, you can find a link to it on the lost media wiki article, and in case you’re curious, he didn’t like the movie. 

I don’t think this particular copy survived, as back then, prints that were sent out to critics were later destroyed to prevent piracy. 

…yep, I did read your comment wrong. I honestly think that could have happened now, but any prints that were taken to cinemas are likely in very wrecked condition by now. 

wrecked prints can help the search even if they arent the best quality. ive seen screenshots in terrible quality help give searches a morale boost which in turn creates more conversation, which makes more boosting for this post and will help people find this amazing movie that was treated badly by the movie industry.
