Anime and it's significance. [[Conversation foarm]]

I don't watch anime as much as I used to, I watch everything with subs except under one circumstance. I find Hetalia to be a lot funnier and a bit more amusing when dubbed. However I still did watch that subbed first as well. I believe mostly my hatred for dubbed anime may have come from the sins of 4kids. Mentioning that name fills me with sadness

Well, I don't care about most dubs. I try to watch the anime subbed as much as possible.

If I watch an anime dubbed, it would usually be the French dub of an old anime of the 70s-80s-90s because this is how my childhood was: watching French-dubbed anime on the morning (France got anime sooner than the USA). A lot of cheesy acting with actors of limited range, and that's how I liked it. A lot of cheesy original theme songs, and that's how we liked it.

If I wanted to, I would make a lot of articles on the lost French dub of many animes. But a lot of those dubbed anime are coming back on DVD, and I need to catch up on what I have already bought.

French dubs were often quite silly, indeed! Because there were not many actors for one cartoon, they would sometimes exaggerate their voices to play different characters... like villains would almost always have the same voice!

Not to mention the censorships! A few examples of French censorship on anime:

- Ranma 1/2 : Tsubasa is in love with Ukyo and woos her... (who are both introduced as girls) but in the French dub, she wants to adopt Ukyo as her sister!!
- Sailor Moon : Zoisite has a gay relationship with Kunzite (Malachite in the US dub). But in the French dub, just like in the US dub, Zoisite is a female character. Honestly, even when I was a kid, I just felt it was weird/forced!
- The Kabocha Wine : Shunsuke lustfully looks at Natsumi's legs in the first episode... but in the French dub, he is mentally commenting about how they look like Eiffel towers or sugarcanes!! Strangely, a later episode has a transboy character... which is not censored at all!!

And some villan voices are so pathitc...I rember one had this odd woman's voice for this male villan..

But for sailor moon I seriously still thought he was a male just feminine..I dont really ever rember any big differences,but I havent watched anime in a long time...I prefer reading manga than anything honestly
