After watching American Tale my partner looked through some of the crew and discovered a movie called Robin and the Dreamweavers, an over hour long pilot to an adult show that never got picked up created by Lou Scheimer. This is the same Lou Scheimer behind Filmation, the studio that produced He-Man, She-Ra, Fat Albert, and many others. Not much seems to be known about this pilot, and I can almost guarantee you, you will not guess what the plot is.

"Robin, the first girl born in Cyberspace, becomes a virtual DJ for Brenda Plump's new virtual reality nightclub. However, she soon gains the attention of the leather-clad dominatrix XXX (pronounced "Triple X"), a cyber being who wants to enter the real world to turn everyone into sex-crazed maniacs. With the help of a band of psychic furries, Robin learns that her unique birth grants her special powers that help her face off against XXX."

Anyway, it seems the only copy available online (or anywhere for that matter) is from a DVD created by "On The Run Video," a bootleg DVD company that way oversells their products and actually watermarks all of their releases. So, while this isn't lost media, a non-watermarked version doesn't seem to exist publicly. Given that most of the animation seems to have been outsourced overseas, I haven't been able to get in contact with anyone who speaks the same language as me who may have a copy. Scheimer died years ago, so I definitely can't ask him either.

If you want to watch it, here it is. Be warned, it sounds a lot cooler than it actually is.

Oh yeah I saw this thing years ago, honestly I really enjoyed it and I wish it had been made into a full series. I actually did a Patreon Request for Cartoon Hero to review it:

I don't remember the version I saw online on Kisscartoon being watermarked(this was before the original KC went under).

The various kisscartoon mirrors that have this film are all watermarked, and since it has the OG kisscartoon watermark on top, I'm thinking it always had it. As far as I'm aware, the On The Run watermarked copy is the only one that's been released or leaked anywhere.

How did someone even get their hands on the movie in the 1st place? This was TWO DECADES before leaks would become somewhat common, leading to the discovery of Scooby Doo And Krypto Too having been 100% finished. This was like in the early 2000s & was either never released in theaters or had a super limited run with almost no advertising of it. Not to mention that Filmation in general was kind of just the butt of jokes amongst the animation community & back then, I think the only fansites related to any Filmation cartoons were for the He-Man And She-Ra cartoons. No other Filmation cartoon was lucky enough to really be brought up back then.

The movie/series was probably announced at some point, but I doubt that a lot of people really cared at that point & the Filmation fans that would've wanted to see Lou Scheimer come back & make a movie for a new adult animated series probably didn't know about it until after bootleg DVDs started showing up! There were some rarezware groups that specialized in films & TV, but it'd be hard to track down the particular group that released this movie before it could release in an official manner considering how obscure it is.

Like who leaked it to be seen by the general public & HOW!? I don't see much adding up here!

I suspect some of the people who worked on it leaked the film on purpose wanting their work to see the light of day, like how the people that made the cancelled fighting game Thrill Kill were pissed after EA bought out Virgin Games and said they wouldn't release it, so some employees deliberately leaked the game online just so their work could be seen and enjoyed by others.

To be clear, this film was never released at all. It's not a movie either, it's a television pilot. Even in Lou's own book he says he doesn't think it ever got released, just bootlegged online. If I had to guess, someone on the team leaked it back in the early 2000s in the animation community, and then it got copied time and time again. This was common in the animation industry back then, before movies like Rock & Rule and The Thief and the Cobbler were easy to find, they got traded on bootleg VHS tapes at conventions. This is probably one of those cases. Since it never got released and seems to have been being produced behind closed doors, there isn't much documentation of it before it was leaked. I don't think anyone knew this was coming in the first place.

I'll send an email to Andy Mangels, the co-author of the book mentioned above. If he responds, I'll give an update.

You can also still buy the DVD from On The Run, it's just watermarked. However it does come with special features I'm not sure that are online. I could contact the person who uploaded it on YouTube to mirror the disc on the Internet Archive, however I'm not sure I'm comfortable contacting that person after seeing what else he uploads.

Huh, so this implies that they're might've been some hoop-jumping in order to get the pilot? I mean, it HAD to have been highly secured if it was done behind closed doors & not even so much as announced to possibly even close family members of Lou. And it must've been almost IMPOSSIBLE to track down the very building that the print could've been at considering how unknown the production studio presumably is? Lou lived in the US, but the production studio was in THE NETHERLANDS. How would the rarezware group know what COUNTRY they'd have to go to in order to get it? If the group was from the US, they'd have to take a LOOOOONG plane trip to go to the Netherlands. Vice versa for a Dutch group if the print was in the US.

In that case, it'd be kinda hard to track down who did it. It wasn't Lou obviously, but everyone else could very well be a suspect.
