In late 2002, I was in Mexico and watched a movie on television. I'm sure it aired on cable but you may know Mexican cable laws aren't that concerned with showing softcore nudity or violence. Presumably this movie aired on a movie channel like Golden or something similar.
All I remember about this action movie is that the climax took place in some kind of warehouse or factory. There were catwalks and the climax may have taken place on one. In the end, the hero (presumably male?) cuts the big bad villain in half vertically, so like from the head down. After the cut, there were brief shots of the villain reacting before he falls over. (I even feel like the last shot is from behind the villain and as they fall apart it reveals the hero, as like a film thing) I feel like the effect used a lot of CG and probably didn't look that great. Either way it's an image that's always stuck with me. As for what was used to do the slicing, I'd presume some kind of sword but I don't think the protagonist was, say, a samurai or something of that nature. It was probably a weapon found inside the facility, it was a movie with that kind of serious, grounded tone.
It was likely a mid-budget (or possibly Hollywood) movie made in the 90s. It wasn't originally voiced in Spanish so I believe it was probably made in America (or targeted at American audiences). Several times I've sniffed around looking for a movie with this description but I haven't found anything yet.
This is ringing some serious bells, but I'm not one hundred percent sure this is what I saw. The tone, setting (dilapidated building), timeframe, look, everything all feels okay, but I seem to remember the scene a little differently so I could be thinking of another movie. The shots of the slice itself are off from my memory (thought the ending bit was 1 on 1, the slice was down instead of up, and the shots in my memory don't match up exactly). But it's quite likely this is it and I just have a few details missing from my memory.
In retrospect, I remembered some time after my last post that I had definitely watched the clip from US Seals 2 in search of the movie I remembered. I'm not saying that it doesn't still absolutely feel like the kind of movie that I saw, but maybe some of that 'ringing a bell' is because I had already seen it during my search and forgot over the years. So I'm not sure, leaning on it not being the right movie.
EDIT: To be slightly more specific, I would have seen the movie (I'm absolutely sure it was a movie, by the way) in December of 2002.
I'm still interested in this because I know for a fact that this was an actual movie I watched and not some kind of odd memory. I don't think it was US Seals 2 but the vibes are very close.
EDIT: I just randomly thought of something. They might have left in helicopters to end the movie, flown away from this battleground, the day saved. Something like that. I remember watching this movie until the end credits.
