"Waiting for the Sirens' Call" is a single by New Order released in September 2005. Several different versions of the single were released, most had different versions of the song on them. I can't seem to find most of these versions legally on streaming sites, though I don't actually think these are "lost" because some of the physical media has been selling on Discogs. It's just a real shame I can't find these online.
VERSIONS I KNOW OF:
Primarily sourced from Discogs and this Niagara page.
(Clarity, just in case you don't know. An "edit" is usually the original song simply with parts of the song cut out. A "remix" is a totally different instrumental track, usually backed with some extra production to the vocals as well, and usually produced by someone other than a usual producer. A "dub" is a remix where the main vocals are taken out, sometimes replaced with backing vocals instead. When I say "Mix" it's just a shortening of "remix".)
Album: (Never Lost) The third track of the album of the same name.
Radio Edit: (Never Lost) An edit of the album version with a minute, a verse and a chorus snipped off. This is the version used in the music video. Was the A-side to the first 7" vinyl release, with a remix of the song "Temptation" as its B-side. This version has also been released to a few compilation albums.
Band Mix: (On Spotify) The band has produced remixes of their own songs before ("Regret") and since ("Be A Rebel") so this isn't that hard to imagine, though I'm very anti-Spotify it's nice to see it's not totally gone from the internet. This was the A-side to the second 7" vinyl, with the B-side being a remix of "Everything's Gone Green". (Link)
Rich Costly Remix: (Seemingly Unavailable Online) Rich Costly also is the one who edited the radio edit of the song which makes trying to search for this version of the song very hard. The radio edit is around 3:52 and this version is 5:37. Was the first song on this version of a CD release, and an instrumental promo cd was also seemingly produced.
Jacknife Lee Remix: (Partially On Spotify) Was the A-side to the third 7" release, with a "Bizarre Love Triangle" remix as its B. Again, I don't use Spotify so I can't confirm the song itself. (Link) Though, Spotify only has the edit of the remix (which is what is on the 7", afaik), the full version of the remix is on the previously mentioned CD release.
Planet Funk Remix and Dub: (Found) They've both been uploaded to YouTube many times over. Remix, dub. The remix is also the basis for how the song is performed live now. (also I don't think the dub version is actually a dub but whatevsies that's an opinion)
Asle Remix and Dub: (Never Lost) Asle's SoundCloud holds both songs. Remix, dub. Also an upload of the remix to YouTube. Though technically the remix was never officially released by New Order.
Guy Gerber Remix: (Unreleased) Since Guy Gerber is still pretty active online I might've overlooked something, but this version was only ever pressed to a promo sampler CD.
Punkrok Remix: (Unreleased) Ditto.
Filterheadz Remix: (Found) Was on that CD, but luckily rereleased to the B-side of a 12" promoting a compilation album, somebody a week ago uploaded it to YouTube. Has remixes of the songs "Confusion" on its A-side and "Everything's Gone Green" also on the B-side.
iTunes Originals: (Never Lost?) Alright, so, this version of the song is a rerecorded version in some iTunes studio for Apple's exclusive iTunes Originals series. But for some reason, not all of the songs are streamable on Apple Music? Like, you can still buy them on iTunes but it's really weird why are some of the songs just not on Music...
Tribute Remix: (Found) So I'm not totally sure exactly what this one is but hey it's on YouTube and it's incorporated like 10 other New Order songs. Apparently it's an official promo. Cool! (Link)
I definitely missed something! I just discovered most of these through combing through Discogs one night, and felt it might be worth posting. I'm merely trying to research the song, and I want them to be as accessible as possible. I might come across stuff like this again and make more posts about it. Also, I'm still very new to this and I'm not too sure how to properly format posts.
