Back in 2012/2013, I recalled reading a children's book with anthropomorphic animals. The main character was a cat and he wore a pair of blue overalls. On the front cover, he is exiting the school building along with the other animal students. On the back cover, it shows his teacher getting frightened by a blob.
One of the stories is "My Homework Ate My Dog". On this page, the cat was doing an experiment only for it to go wrong as it morphs into a blob that ate his dog Fido. In another story, the cat and his class were playing instruments at music class. I also remembered that one of the students at his school was a snake. I even recreated the cover and one of the pages from memory (fenneykindlefire.tumblr.com/post/710380126725193728/i-recreated-the-cover-and-one-of-the-pages-of-a).
I do recall an old golden book story about a cat that went to school i don't know if this is the same thing but it was from the 70s i believe and was a very large book, part of the "giant golden books" series i think they were called. I believe the cat did have overalls and possibly a hat as well. It had that old golden book vinage style with smooth watercolors. Sadly i don't remember the name but will look for it if it sounds at all similiar to yours.
