Im trying to find some recordings of a lost nick jr show but whenever I try to search for Nick jr tv recordings on eBay and sites like that all I get are official VHS releases of the shows. Any idea on how to search for more specific TV recordings?

Archive.org has a number of recordings, I'd check there

there's quite a few listings for TV VHS recordings on Ebay though they are commonly labeled as blank tapes because of the gray area of selling personal recorded home media(As that technically falls into the bootleg category and Ebay occasionally does crack down on that sort of thing).

I'll recommend the r/VHS subreddit. I've bought some VHS tapes there, including several Nickelodeon tapes. There's lots of people selling who have good standing in the community. You can ask around and see if anyone has what you're looking for.

If you specifically want old VHS tapes you'll have to buy random lots off eBay. You shouldn't expect too much as most people just recorded movies onto tape.
There's a number of options. Some thrift stores (at least in my area, I have no idea what it's like elsewhere) refuse to take VHS tapes as donations, and no longer sell them. I've found most of my recordings at Goodwill Outlets, but it can be very hit or miss. I haven't found anything in terms of VHS tapes in a few months.
eBay is another option, though you have to be really cautious of listings with Cartoon Network/Nickelodeon recordings. They're in really high demand right now. It's a bit hard to explain, but check the item description for keywords like "Copy of a 1st Generation Tape" or something similar. It means that the seller is making duplicates of an original tape. They are not selling the original broadcast recording, but rather, a copy transferred to another VHS tape. I've also seen eBay users take full recordings off the Internet Archive and sell them... If you have any doubts, send the eBay seller a message. If the tape has a label, be sure to check that, too. Most older tapes have some form of weathering to their tape label(fading, discoloration, etc). I haven't seen any eBay seller attempt to fake that yet, lol.
Search on ebay "prerecorded VHS" and add nickelodeon or nick jr. To the search field as well
There are assholes who record entire archive.org rips and charge an arm and a leg for them. Also the prices tend to reach sky high for worn out old tapes.

The way I see it you can get them from tons of places. There are some on Ebay, but not as many. The best place that I'd think are flea markets and thrift stores.

I'm starting to get into VHS recordings myself. My grandma's going to bring over some old tapes from her old house thats being condemned. Some she recorded herself, and others she bought from other people. They should be from late 70s, early 80s, and the channels are mostly CBS, ABC, and NBC. I'm going to upload them if there's anything interesting.

that's awesome! There's a few early 80s shows i'm looking for like Baker's Dozen and Star of the Family.
